🌺Camellias – a great opportunity for autumn planting🌺

As summer fades, autumn is the perfect time to add 3L Camellias to displays. Their glossy evergreen foliage provides year-round interest, while their impressive flowers bring plenty of colour when customers are looking for something special for their gardens, with many varieties flowering from late autumn through to early spring.

We have featured three popular varieties in this week’s availability list, but we also have a fantastic selection of other varieties available, with a wide range of flower colours and forms to suit different gardens and planting schemes. Euphorbia – Colour and interest that keeps on giving!

After weeks of heat and dry conditions, the much-needed rain and cooler temperatures this week are a welcome boost for gardens, giving gardeners the ideal conditions to get planting again.

Euphorbias are a great choice for adding late-summer colour and extending seasonal interest. From the ever-popular, RHS Award of Garden Merit-winning ‘Ascot Rainbow’, with its striking variegated foliage, to the colour-changing blooms of ‘Galaxy Glow’ and the rich burgundy foliage of ‘Merlot’, these hardy, low-maintenance plants offer excellent garden appeal and plenty of impact.

🌺 By late summer, most flowering shrubs have already had their moment.

🍂 Hibiscus Chiffon is only just getting going. These hardy shrubs come into their own from August onwards, throwing out large, exotic-looking blooms right through into autumn. That's exactly when consumers assume the season is over.

🍍 The name Chiffon comes from the flower. Each bloom carries a delicate, lacy centre of finer petals, giving a full, layered look that reads as tropical but is completely hardy here. It's an easy sell to customers who want something exotic without the risk.

🌶️ Alongside the Hibiscus, two ornamental edibles are worth a look. Pumpkin Peppers carry small, ribbed fruits that ripen from cream through orange and hold on the plant for weeks. The shape does the seasonal Halloween work for you, without a pumpkin in sight!

🔥 Chilli Basket of Fire has a dense, bushy habit that fills a basket beautifully, smothered in slim fruits colouring through purple, yellow and orange to scarlet, often all at once on the same plant. At around 80,000 SHU, it's a serious chilli, but both of these sell on looks as much as on cooking. That makes them an easy impulse buy anywhere, rather than a purely edible-aisle line.
