Warm welcome to Karin Norlén

Karin Norlén grew up in Sweden, the Middle East and Africa and studied the violin and the viola in Copenhagen, Jerusalem and Birmingham. She now enjoys a versatile career in the UK and beyond as a recitalist, chamber musician, teacher and orchestral player, working frequently with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and other London Orchestras.

Karin is a founder member of the Little Venice Ensemble; a collective of internationally acclaimed musicians in Sweden and the UK. Praised by the music critics and audiences alike, the group’s first disc Deck the Halls was awarded five stars by the Sunday Mirror and named runner up Christmas Disc of the Year by Classic FM in 2014.

Karin is also a visual artist and designer. During her violin studies in Jerusalem, she studied drawing and lithography at the world-renowned Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. She has exhibited her work in the UK and Sweden.

Karin plays on a viola made for her by David Milward in 2019.

Fabulous Monica Lewis investigates the spiritual, emotional and psychological effects of her loss of memory in a series of paintings.
​​The sense of space and focus on the figure give you a sense of another time. Although the work is autobiographical, she uses the image of her friends’ children to validate the power of simplicity in childhood as a legacy, reliving her memories through the new
​​generation. Using a variety of media, she embarks on a journey of self-questioning and self-knowledge where the process of making is as important as the outcome in
​​discovering and healing the gaps in her life story.
​​‘The art I produce explores the emotional significance of memory as a lost possession. It displays an awareness of the presence and absence of memory coexisting side by side. Realism and representation are needed to allow the senses and the ineffable to be ‘seen’ by me. The tension between time, place and lost memories has strengthened my interest in the beauty of the ordinary.
​​Making is cathartic for me, and part of the process of self-questioning. Circles are a recurring symbol in my work as I try to make sense of the movement of time in relation to my memory.’

Introducing Naomi of Sew Naomi
​​Naomi set up Sew Naomi over 8 years ago when her girls were young, and she wanted a creative outlet to help relax after a busy day. She has a passion for creating beautiful and functional items. Her crayon and pencil rolls are still the most popular Christmas gifts, with the showstopping rainbow skirts always causing a stir. Branching out with her computerised embroidery machine, enables Naomi to produce stunning Christmas decorations and incredibly detailed mini fairy houses.

Lockdown brought this quirky crafter and fuzzy fiber enthusiast into the world of needle felting, and she hasn’t looked back since. With a heart full of love for all things life and nature, Rosie’s mission is simple but oh-so-charming: to needle felt her way into your heart and leave you grinning from ear to ear with her delightful creations!

Liz creates bespoke Sterling Silver Jewellery and Wearable Keepsakes using traditional silversmithing techniques. Although she primarily works in sterling silver, she also incorporates semi-precious stones, recycled glass, sea glass and different metals into her work. She takes on bespoke commissions, the most unique being her SticKidz, where she transforms children’s drawings into keepsake jewellery for all ages.
She’s excited to be hosting Christmas at The Silver Workshop once again this year, and hopes to build on the previous two years success with an amazing array of local artists and makers. And of course there will be the obligatory mulled wine and toasted marshmallows. This year she’s decided to raise some donations for the Florence Nightingale Hospice at Home in memory of her dad who passed away this year.
She looks forward to welcoming you all to our market and to enjoy some special Christmas magic around the fire!

Allow me to introduce Evas Garden Pottery, a talented artisan whose pottery creations radiate uniqueness and craftsmanship.

My pottery is inspired by nature. The sea is a particular inspiration with its ebb and flow and the multitude of creatures than live in and around it. My work is glazed predominantly with clay slips. Whilst the surface is still wet I apply a Mocha slip, which creates unique patterns reminiscent of spiders webs and seaweed moving in the surf. I finish the decoration with applied springs of creatures that are synergetic with the emerging patterns. These techniques help to express the naturalistic forms and colours of the ocean.

I have been making pottery for a couple of years under the tutorlidge of Melanie Brown with emphasis on form and Dylan Bowen with Slip finishing. I have also been taught by John Huggins who has helped me scale up my work to make large pots designed for use in the garden.
