Watch what happens when the light comes on.
We built this staircase with an open, see-through structure, finished in the same wood tone as the TV wall, the kitchen, and the corridor panelling, so a single material language runs through the entire ground floor.
Each side is closed with timber cladding, mounted directly onto glass balustrades. The glass itself isn't hung as one diagonal line, as in many projects — it's cut individually to follow each step at the base, with the timber sitting exactly on top of that line.
Above the stairs, the transitions are soft: microcement curves wrap the whole void and continue up to the first floor, where a decorative niche with built-in lighting sits within the same flowing geometry. We chose Italian pendants for the stairwell opening; they reinforce the idea behind the whole space: the floor, walls, and ceiling should flow into one another, with rounded lines and soft curves rather than hard edges.
At the bottom, motion-sensor lighting is built directly into the skirting, finished in microcement to match the walls, so the light source disappears until it's needed.
