Galloway Flowers Flower Farm & Florist Growing Gorgeous Cut Flowers, near Castle Douglas in Dumfries & Galloway. Flowers for weddings & funerals.

Rosie Gray & Ken Leslie founded this Artisan Florist & Flower Farm growing Seasonal, Scented Cut Flowers in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. Over the season, hundreds of varieties are grown here, both traditional cutting garden favourites (such as Sweet Peas, Garden Pinks, Tulips & Dahlias) plus many rarely available to buy elsewhere. Local Bouquet delivery service available on Fridays or flowers can be ordered & collected from us. If you want a bouquet or just a simple bunch, happy to help if you collect. Arranged in our 'just picked from the garden' style.
'Bloom Buckets' of flowers available to arrange yourself for weddings, parties & events. Flowers available to buy at Kirkcudbright Farmers Market each month. Flowers cut to order for maximum freshness & vase life. We add flowers from other British growers for variety (mainly in winter) - 100% British grown flowers all year round. As part of our commitment to protecting this special environment, we never use floral foam as it isn't compostable & a pollutant. Flowers are grown naturally, without the use of pesticides & fungicides. Galloway & South Ayrshire Biosphere Certification Mark awarded in recognition of our environmentally responsible horticultural & floristry practice. Visits by appointment & for collection only. Garden Tours & workshops at the Flower Farm in summer months.

Possibly one of the prettiest bucketfuls of Dahlias I've cut this season. And it's going to be one of the last.
As expected, Jack Frost came for my Dahlias hard last night - a sad sight to greet me this morning. Knowing the forecast, I cut every viable stem yesterday - I can hardly move about in the workshop. I'll dry some for Winter wreaths today.
These colours have been in high demand this season for weddings. So as soon as ready, I've cut them & away they went. Very few even made it to a photo moment!
But these are all mine. Some are a bit marked by rain, not good enough to sell yet still going to look fabulous in my kitchen this weekend.

Cutting Dahlias in the strong 40+ mph wind yesterday wasn't easy but as the forecast for today is for heavy rain, needs must.
We protected the Dahlias successfully from frost several times this month for event requests. From this weekend, they'll be left to Jack Frost as it looks like a cold spell ahead. They probably won't like it.
Always sad to see them go but I need to dig the Dahlias up, store them safely & plant out the flower stock for our early 2027 season.
A large box of bulbs is due today & they'll not plant themselves...

Daffodils & Tulips? They'll be here in no time!

As our Flower season moves to a close, I'm noting carefully the 'performers' & 'the wasters', especially among the Dahlias. There are 350 plants in the field this year & storing them through till next Spring is a huge job - I want to invest time storing only those worth growing again.
This one ('Jennifer Mary Ellen') was a new variety for this year - I bought 2 tubers. just to try.
Colour is fabulous 10/10. Dark, rich & velvety. More purple than the burgundy expected. The centre is almost black & would be lovely for a witchy wedding.
But it's very short - plants barely reach 50 cms. First flowers came only in last couple of weeks, so not productive enough to cover the cost this year.
To be fair, it's been a tough year for Dahlias - not enough water early on & maybe planted in a slightly shady spot. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, another try next year.
That colour is just fabulous & if I could just persuade it to be productive too... To grow flowers for sale you have to be an eternal optimist!
If you've tried this one, I would love to know how it performed. (And suggestions for similar colour Dahlias that might do better would be appreciated too!)

A 'Flower Arrangers Bucket' in October...
The variety & volume of our locally grown flowers here is reducing with cooler weather & longer nights, but I was pleased by this selection cut earlier this morning. All grown here at the Flower Farm for minimal 'flower miles' & a low carbon footprint..

What could you do with a bucket of natural Scottish-grown loveliness like this?
* A large arrangement?
* Fill a couple of smaller vases or jugs?
* A Bridal Bouquet perhaps?
* Or lots of cheerful 'Jam Jar' Posies or bud vases to decorate tables perhaps?

So many possibilities!

For weddings, often I create the bouquets & buttonholes, & then Couples are helped by family & friends to decorate the venue with our 'Flower Arrangers Buckets'. Some order plenty of flower buckets & arrange everything themselves.

Available to book from April to September, the varieties in each bucket changes with the seasons. Some flowers are grown in small quantities & available for just a few weeks each year. Always fresh, often scented & full of 'just cut from a Country garden' style.

If that sounds like your kind of style, 'Flower Arrangers Buckets' can be reserved now for 2027 events. All flowers are cut fresh to order, prepped ready for you to cut stems to length & arrange.
Simply message me to reserve your flowers.

Vibrant colours for an October wedding. This was part of a wholesale order collected by a Florist customer yesterday.
Our Dahlias are absolutely fabulous just now. Bought locally rather than imported, Dahlias give days more freshness (crucial with a relatively short vase life). They arrive at their destination unbruised too, avoiding waste.
The order included lashings of foliage too, such as Copper Beech & Ferns. All preconditioned, ready to arrange at once.
And not forgetting the 'twiddly bits' that make a wedding look truly unique & seasonal. I included a few stems of tiny Rose Hips & seed heads too. These are so useful for the wedding details such as head dresses & buttonholes. (And no need to buy an unnecessary wrap of 100...)
I'm looking forward to seeing how these are used!

Autumn wedding at GG's Yard in 2025.
Dahlias, Sunflowers, Amaranthus, tall grasses, crispy Bracken & Hops. (Plus a few Conkers, Beech nuts...)
Hop bines from Kent were draped from tall pillars. Everything else grown in Scotland. No floral foam.
Arranging into tall jars like these makes it easy to move the large arrangements to other venue areas after the ceremony. A useful budget stretcher!

Candy Floss pink Dahlias...
I seem to have been posting mostly Autumn colours lately as the season comes rushing in fast.
So a reminder that I grow (& sell) plenty of pinks too!

Dahlias, yes please!
They've been slow to flower in volumes this year due to the weird weather.
But finally, they're hitting their stride & this week going to be filling buckets.
Now as long as I can keep Jack Frost at bay, all will be well.
The fleece & head torches are ready to cover the plants if there's a late night frost warning...

Dahlias in peaches & pinks, Daisies & Mallows arranged in a Clients own vase. Used to decorate the family home for a wedding party a couple of years back.
A favourite colour palette again...
I loved this vase as soft glaze colour & shape very easy to arrange into. I've an inkling it was made by a local D&G Ceramicist - if it was you, please do tell me & I'll add you name to post.
Trying to reduce my camera storage again & it brings up all these long forgotten moments!
