Hello velvet floral flares!

My first make of 2024! Finished them this afternoon, so why not photograph them straight away!

I got this piece of velvet at the fabric swap last year, with no real idea what I would do with it.
First planned to make a dungaree pinafore but thought it might be a bit too ‘Laura Ashley’! And then suddenly the new year came and I was ready to make a splash with some funky flares!

Used the as a base, swapping out the side seam pockets for front ones, and tapering the leg more. I also followed the Stitch Sisters zip tutorial which was brilliant! I quite like to have big hems on flares but the lack of fabric meant I could only have bias binding turn ups!

Well, they are super comfy and I’m looking forward to wearing them lots!

Lovely few days in Scotland!

Enjoyed fantastic galleries and museums in Edinburgh and then a very chilly trip to Dundee to see the fabulous Tartan exhibition at

The zero temperatures necessitated the purchase of a hat! But my and second hand red fleecy jacket did a good job of keeping me cosy!

My tartan dungaree shorts were of course a must for the tartan exhibition!

Here’s my top 9 posts from 2023, I’m only a little bit late in getting round to it!

I’m pretty pleased with it and it’s nice to see and Bert, as it was his first year with us! 😻

However, swipe to slide two to see my top 9 makes of 2023! I love all those dresses, dungarees and flares! 🥰 So pleased also, that all but two of my makes were using second hand fabrics!

I’m already planning a few makes for 2024, my first is laid out and pinned on the cutting table! You’ll be the first to see it when it’s finished!

Happy 2024 everyone!

My last make of 2023!

A bottle green velvet vintage wiggle dress for my sister-in-law’s wedding!

An amazing day .hotel which was the perfect setting for a winter wedding!

I was making the dress up to the wire with a quick mannequin hem trim! I used adding some 3/4 length sleeves and a little ‘v’ notch in the neckline for added detail. I’m really pleased with the outcome, but it wasn’t the easiest thing to sew!

A rather wintery picture of this years party dress!

Very pleased that I’ve already worn this super cute and comfy A - line shift dress!

It is of course made from a piece of a vintage curtain! I only had a small amount, but it was just enough for a simple shape. I mashed up the New Look K6125 and Simplicity 1252.

I love the colour and 70’s design, perfect for bright and clashy tights and tops!

Dungaree Days!

Very excited to have finished my dual purpose dungarees! I had wanted to make some vintage style denim dungarees for a while now, but I also wanted some easy wear jeans. So I came up with the idea of a detachable bib!

The denim is from and the pattern is my own mashed up version of and I added buttons and button holes to the bib and straps, making a versatile two garments in one! Win win!!

Today’s make is a mash up of 3 fabrics and 3 patterns!

I had this pretty red/pink floral in my stash and wanted to make a top with long sleeves, but sadly it was only a small amount of fabric, so I paired it with some reclaimed duvet material and used a red micro gingham to accentuate the different fabrics. I am particularly pleased with my piped edging!

I used the for the main body, for the collar and I extended the sleeves and added a cuff.

Today I wore it with my black cord

Tortoise Time!

We’ve had VB for a whole year now and my how he has grown! Swipe to see pic 2 when he was half his length!!

When he came to us last October he weighed a minuscule 24g and measured 4.6cm long. Now he weighs a whopping 178g and 9.7cm long!

Great job Bede! Bert was keeping a watchful eye this morning!

My latest pair of rescued curtains into a comfy pair of jeans!

Found this fantastic pair of vintage curtains on a trip to Harrogate in July. Wondered if they were a bit too bold for me, but in the end I opted for a pair of flares!

I used tapering the leg in and then out and adding front pockets. I followed the Stitch Sisters zip tutorial which was excellent!

And this week I was lucky enough to find the perfect brown cashmere roll neck in a Lewes charity shop!

Topped it all off with some old green boots and a borrowed cap!

I’m absolutely loving this look and it’s so comfy and cosy to wear!

First of my Autumn makes!

Found this lovely drapey viscose in a charity shop in Lewes. The darker colours felt a bit more Autumny, so I thought I would make this transitional shift dress. Perfect for layering with long sleeved tops and opaque tights! I didn’t expect it to be a sunny day to photograph it, so I thought I’d better jump at the chance!

I used the adding pockets and tapering it in at the waist. I added a tie belt, swipe to see the dress without. Not sure which I prefer, what do you think?
