Think I need to listen to this and take note.
THE LIFE OF A PAINTER & DECORATOR 💰 🪦
They say money can’t buy happiness… but try telling that to a self-employed decorator with bills to pay, materials to buy, a van to run and customers asking for a discount!
You spend your days chasing the next job, working long hours, sacrificing weekends and turning other people’s houses into homes. You get covered in paint, breathe in dust, wreck your knees, ruin your back and somehow end up spending half your earnings in the trade counter before you’ve even started the job!
And just when you think you’re getting somewhere, the price of materials goes up, the van needs repairing, the tax bill arrives.
But here’s the thing about life in the trade…
Money comes and goes, but your time never comes back.
There will always be another job to quote, another wall to paint and another customer to keep happy. But your family won’t always be waiting at the same age, your children won’t stay young forever, and your body won’t be able to graft like it does today.
Work hard, take pride in what you do, charge what your skills are worth and never be ashamed of wanting to earn a decent living. You’ve spent years learning your trade, building your reputation and perfecting your craft. Don’t undervalue yourself just to keep everyone else happy.
Remember, being busy doesn’t always mean you’re getting ahead, and making money means nothing if you’re too exhausted to enjoy your life.
Look after your health, protect your peace, spend time with the people who matter and learn when to put the brush down.
So graft hard, earn well, enjoy the journey and remember why you started in the first place.
