1940’s Épicerie Scrubbed Oak Tall Shop Display Cabinet. Exceptional original 1940’s épicerie display cabinet from France with a character dry oak sun bleached finish. Completely original the cabinet has great proportions and eight fixed shelves. The single tall glass door retains the original early glass. Beautiful but simple. Unfortunately we do not have the original key, but the cabinet is open. If you need a key, we can get one made from a local key maker for an additional cost, just contact us by email for more details. Our workshop has cleaned and serviced the counter it is strong, stable and good to go.

1940’s French Mid Length Station Bench. Classic formed and steamed bent bench made in France. The process of steam bending beech to create elegant furniture was discovered and developed by Thonet, but when its patents expired in 1869 many companies including Fischel launched production. Fischel was founded in 1871 by Czech born David Gabriel Fischel, a successful vegetable oil merchant, using the first hand knowledge of his eldest son who had worked in one of Thonets Czech factories. First production was made in Germany in Niemes near the Danube. Later production moved to France in Alsace and sales offices were opened in most major French cities as Fischel became a major chair producer. The bench does not have a makers mark but we believe it to be Fischel. This bench dates from the 1940’s, a classic shape with a rich colour and character and a curved organic form with rich detail. The bench was originally pushed against a wall at one end, but we have left it original. Our workshop has cleaned and serviced the bench it is stable and comfortable. Note Merveille is the distributor, not the maker.

1950’s French Mullca Steel Green Stacking School Dining Chairs. One of our most favourite chairs, in 1947 Robert Muller and Gaston Cavaillon created the company that went on to develop arguably the most famous French school chair. Sadly the company no longer exists but vintage chairs can still be found, beautifully made with a strong tubular frame with birch seats and back inserts. Rumour has it that this model was the redesign of the 511 after the French government felt the 511 needed updating to be more sophisticated. Ours date from the early 1950’s and are in exceptional condition. The earlier versions retain the dog leg (not straight) rear leg. Super comfortable and stylish. We service each chair individually before they leave our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality. 1950’s Mid Century Yellow Rectangle Side Table – Interieur Praha. Good quality side table with a practical yellow top and a light golden colour. The table was made in Eastern Europe using birch and beech, the table is designed with a loose top that can be turned to use either the yellow or off white laminate surfaces, the table is in good condition. Our workshop has cleaned and serviced the table it is strong, stable and good to go.

1920’s Original Metal Three Door Locker – Schwartz Haumont. The locker has the original metal tag ‘Atelier De Construction – Schwartz Haumont, Paris, Hautmont Lyon. Schwartz Hautmont is a large Spanish steel construction company and this locker was probably produced by them for their offices, atelier. Of exceptional early design from the 1920’s the locker is in it’s original condition with a stunning character finish.

1970’s Cantilever Peninsular Blue Frame Dining Chairs With Sage Green Upholstery Set Of Seven. Classic Bauhaus style cantilever frame dining chairs produced with blue frames and reupholstered seats and backs and beech capped arms. Of good size and proportion the chairs are very comfortable with a slight spring thanks to the classic cantilever frame. The upholstery has been replaced by our upholsterer with a cotton/linen velvet that is upholstered and certified to Crib 5 contract upholstery.

1890’s Decorated Simple Elegant Bentwood Dining Chairs – JJ Kohn – Austria – Set Of Four. This set of chairs was made by the Teschen workshop of Jacob and Josef Kohn, contemporary competitors to Thonet, a simple elegant shape they are totally original. Kohn was one of the leading bentwood producers in Austria – Hungary. Jacob & Josef Kohn, also known as J. & J. Kohn, was an Austrian furniture maker and interior designer in Vienna. Jacob Kohn (1791-1866) together with his son Josef Kohn (1814-1884) founded the company in 1849. Kohn merged with Mundus in 1914, which in turn merged with Gebrüder Thonet in 1921 to become the world’s largest furniture manufacturer. After the brothers deaths at the end of the 19th Century Kohn merged with their other competitor Mundus in 1914. We know these chairs are 19th Century as the are not branded Mundus, they are diminutive in scale and the design is very much late 19th Century. Rare survivors of the original Kohn production. The chairs are of exceptional original condition and colour with untouched construction using hand cut screws and forged nuts.

1980’s Flame Oak Fanback Armchair – Set Of Eight. Good quality classic bentwood armchairs with a typical fan back arm shape in a clean flame oak colour. The chairs were made by TON. They use solid beech and steam bend to get that iconic bentwood look. They are a heavy weight robust chair with a good wear and age. Our workshop has serviced each chair, and are good to go.
