A bedroom and bathroom designed as a traditional Gentleman’s Quarter, with a subtle nod to the world of Regency officers and campaign furniture.
Our client had a particular interest in military history, so the design drew loosely from the practical elegance of campaign furniture, which was developed to allow British officers to take the comforts and conventions of home with them while travelling on military campaigns.
During the Georgian and Regency periods, campaign furniture became increasingly sophisticated, with many of its defining features beginning as practical engineering solutions.
Brass corners and straps protected timber furniture from the knocks of repeated journeys, while flush brass handles prevented drawers and fittings from catching on ropes, canvas and luggage.
Over time, these practical details became part of the distinctive campaign aesthetic we recognise today.
For this project, we took those historical references and interpreted them through a refined, contemporary lens, creating a space that feels rooted in the period without becoming overly literal.
A considered Gentleman’s Quarter, shaped by history, craftsmanship and the story of its owner.
