When Neil and I opened our little shop in 2020, right in the middle of the second COVID lockdown, we could never have imagined where this journey would take us. What started as a dream became a place filled with incredible customers, wonderful local friends, and so many unforgettable memories.

Running an independent business has brought us plenty of challenges, celebrations, late nights, and proud moments. As our lease comes to an end, with a rent review ahead and the limitations of what we can achieve in our current space, we found ourselves at a crossroads. While this little shop has given us so much, we know it can no longer support the future we dream of for Sugarcane. Combined with the arrival of our little one, it simply feels like the right time to pause—to spend some precious time as a family, and to take this opportunity to build something bigger, better, and even more special for the next chapter.

This isn’t the end—Although our shop doors will be closed for a while, this page won’t be. We’ll continue sharing updates on our journey, behind-the-scenes moments, and little snippets of inspiration from Taiwan and across East Asia until we return.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for an unforgettable six years. To every customer who chose us, every friend who cheered us on, every family member who supported us, and everyone who believed in our little dream—thank you. You have been such a special part of our story, and we can’t wait to begin the next chapter with you.

A little look back at last month’s baking workshop with our lovely friends . 💛

We spent the afternoon creating light, crisp choux pastries using the beautiful ._.uk appliances. Despite the summer heat, everyone did an incredible job, and the results were absolutely delicious!

Thank you to everyone who joined us—it was such a joy to bake together and share our love for pâtisserie.

We’re already looking forward to our next workshop, so stay tuned for future dates. We can’t wait to bake with you again! ✨🧁

Craft Appreciation Day! ✨

Did you know one of our hidden team members/co-owners, ( ), is also an amazing glass blower?

Tonight, we had the chance to attend the event hosted by Paul Smith in London, celebrating the amazing heritage of UK glassblowing as part of London Craft Week. It was truly inspiring to see so many talented makers and craftspeople keeping traditional handcraft alive.

We’ve always believed that making things by hand is one of the most beautiful and rewarding things in a world increasingly shaped by AI and mass factory production. There’s something deeply special about the patience, skill, and human touch behind every handmade piece, ( just like our cake 😉!)

A big shoutout to all the glass blowers and makers across the country — it’s an incredibly demanding craft and industry, requiring years of training, immense effort, rising material and studio costs, and countless hours of dedication. Your work deserves to be celebrated. 🔥🫶
And another shoutout to for helping bring awareness to this precious and fragile community that so many people are working hard to protect and preserve. ✨🔥
