Introducing our new reference series: a space for the artists, makers, and visual languages that shape how we look at interiors.

We begin with Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, whose mirror mosaics and geometric compositions turn pattern into light, rhythm, and atmosphere.

For us, references like this are about looking closer: at proportion, material, cultural memory, and the quiet power of a surface to change how a space feels.

Before the “after.”

Everyone loves the final reveal, but this is what most projects actually look like for a long time.

Dust, noise, site visits, small changes, things that need to be redone, and details that only feel right after a lot of back and forth.

It’s not the pretty part, but it’s where the space starts becoming real.

There is something I love about this stage of a project.

The room is still unfinished, but the structure is beginning to speak: The wall panelling, the moulding profiles, the baseboards, the ornate corners.

Before the final finishes, there is this quieter moment where proportion, rhythm, and detail start to find their place.

The vision is not complete yet, but it is already taking shape.

From sketch to visualisation, the process is where the room begins to reveal itself.

For this space, the challenge was not only to design storage or create a bar area, but to make each element feel connected: the arch, the cabinetry, the stone, the glass, the light.

Every line drawn in the first sketch had to become something more precise. Something that could hold function, but still feels considered.

This is the quiet part of the work.
