2026 has definitely given me a few things to think about. 😂

Every growing season teaches you something, but this year has really highlighted how much I need to adapt the way I’m farming to the weather we’re getting.

So I’ve been thinking about what I can actually change for 2027 rather than just crossing my fingers and hoping for a kinder growing season.

Better water management.
More focus on the soil.
More cover crops and mulch.
More autumn sowing and biennials.
And generally trying to build a more resilient flower farm.

There’s also one fairly big change happening behind the scenes later this year which is going to make a big difference to our water collection… but I’m keeping that one under wraps for now. 👀

The aim isn’t necessarily to grow more and more every year. It’s to grow better, work smarter and make the farm more resilient.

Although knowing me, I’ll probably still find another 47 things to grow. 😂

What has this growing season taught you?

If you’re new here, hello 👋

I realised I’ve gained quite a few new faces lately, so it felt like a good time to reintroduce myself and explain what on earth is going on around here.

I started growing on my allotment in 2020, and somehow that turned into me becoming a flower farmer and running Wirral Flower Farm. 🌸

Life on the Lot is basically the behind-the-scenes of all of that — the flowers, the growing, the weddings, PYO, workshops, the never-ending jobs and an unreasonable amount of worrying about the weather and whether I’ve got enough water. 😂

So if you’re new, welcome. And if you’ve been here since the allotment days… thank you for sticking around.

How long have you been following along? 👇

🌸 September dates for Wirral Flower Farm 🌸

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone that has supported us this season. It’s been a WILD one and hasn’t quite turned out the way I hoped, with our stop/start on PYO, but with so many people coming and saying so many kind words 🥹 it truly makes all the struggles worthwhile!

Thanks for bearing with me! It’s been difficult to plan, estimate and just sometimes know what on earth is going on! 🤷‍♀️ Your understanding and kindness has meant the world - and is what flowers are definitely all about 🫶

I’ve now been able to ( I hope 😬 ) plan a little better, and hope you’ll be able to join us for one last time in the field for flowers this year for PYO, workshops or grabbing a bunch at Port Sunlight Village Market

We aren’t open this Sunday as we have TWO banging workshops today! Very excited but we have planned our wellies and raincoats too 😂 it’s nice to be back to normal eh?

And hope everyone has a great bank holiday! 🌸

Before you start planting… read this.… ➡️💍🌸

The flowers you want might not naturally be ready when you’re getting married. Plan your flowers around what will actually be in bloom.

Some plants won’t germinate. Some will get eaten by slugs. Some will flower too early. Some will just have a bad week.

Wedding flowers are not the time to rely on exact numbers.

You want varieties that give you lots of stems and keep producing.
Think cosmos, sweet peas, zinnias, scabious and ammi rather than putting all your hopes on one tricky crop.

You need somewhere to grow them, water them, support them, harvest them, condition them and store them before the big day.

Growing them is only half the job!

Because flowers don’t know you’ve got a wedding booked!

Weather, pests and timing can all throw your plans off, so always build in a little flexibility.

Our DIY wedding flower packages give you buckets of beautiful, seasonal flowers grown here on the farm — ready for you to arrange in your own style.

Perfect for couples who want the flowers to feel personal, without adding “become a flower farmer” to the wedding to-do list.

They may look like they’ve just casually appeared…

but I can assure you, these flowers have been helicopter parented from seed to stem 😂

Flower farmers, what’s the one thing people say about your job that makes you internally combust? 👀

But, PYO is back open this weekend.

More details on the website! 🙃

I would love to say for sure we will be open next week but i still just can’t predict what the flowers/weather are going to do from one week to the next right now 😂

But, a huge thank you to everyone for understanding! 🫶 see you on Sunday 🙌🌸
