This is a superb piece of Original Irish Art, a gouache (thick watercolour) Painting of Irish Cottages Near The Sea, by the acclaimed Irish artist, Markey Robinson, who has signed it to the bottom left, please see photos.

David Marcus Robinson, known as Markey Robinson (7 February 1918 – 28 January 1999), was an Irish painter and sculptor with a primitive representational style. His main passion was painting, but he also produced sculptures and designed some stained glass panels.

Born in Belfast in 1918 he was educated at Perth Street Elementary School and at the Belfast College of Art, however, he learnt most from his grandfather, the recognised painter/decorator, Thomas Robinson.

Markey travelled abroad at various times and in 1942 three of his paintings were first exhibited in the Ulster Academy of Arts exhibition.

He was highly collected and his works are in many collections around the world.

This superb piece by him is painted in gouache, which was one of his favourite mediums and featured a couple of Irish cottages near the sea, with the sails of a boat in the distance. It features a colourful palette and looks fabulous.

It is mounted within a wonderfully presented contemporary silver coloured wooden frame and measures 51cm x 41 cm including the frame. (The actual viewable artwork measures 29.5 cm x 18.5 cm). It’s behind glass and ready to hang and enjoy displaying beautifully.

It’s priced at £1,800.

Please take a look at this outstanding piece of Irish art I have for sale.

A painting of the harbour at Tory Island at night, by the highly collected and desirable Irish artist Patsy Dan Rodgers (1944 - 2018) who has signed it to the bottom right and personalised it to the rear, please see photos.

Tory Island, or simply Tory (officially known by its Irish name Toraigh), is an island 14.5 kilometres (9.0 miles) off the north-west coast of County Donegal, Ireland, and is the most remote inhabited island of Ireland. It is also known in Irish as Oileán Thoraí or, historically, Oileán Thúr Rí. The word Tory comes from the Middle Irish word Tóraidhe, which means “bandit.”

Patsy Dan Rodgers (Patsaí Dan Mag Ruaidhrí) was an Iconic Irish painter, musician, and the King of Tory from the 1990s until his death in 2018. He was renowned for his love of Tory Island and his paintings are highly collected.

This superb original oil painting by him is titled on the rear ‘Tory Island Harbour at Night’ and is typical of his work. On the rear in addition to adding the title he has also signed it, added the medium ‘oil on canvas board’ and added the date 15/8/2094. He has also written ‘From the King of Tory’.

The painting is mounted within a recessed brown coloured wooden frame, with white coloured wooden inserts and is behind glass, ready to hang and enjoy, displaying beautifully.

It measures 41 cm x 34 cm including the frame. The actual artwork measures 12” x 9” (23 cm x 30 cm).

A stunning piece of Irish Art.

A similar piece, which was slightly smaller, sold at Ross’s Auction house in Belfast in November 2020 for £1,700, do after fees would have cost more than £2,000. Do this one is an absolute bargain.

My goodness I’ve been busy these past few months, my online sales have been much higher than usual, so thank you to everyone who have been buying from me, repeats customers and new customers alike. I am in the process of moving all my stock to one centralised place as for years I have had it in several different places, which was far from ideal. So I’ve bitten the bullet and taken a premises and I can have everything under one roof. I will work from there and although not open to the public people can arrange a viewing by appointment and wow do I have some stock! I’ve had my first couple of appointments and although it’s a work in progress I hope to have the place ship shape by the end of August. So 30 Devon Parade in Belfast is where ‘Waringfield’ is now operating and I’ll post photos of the place and some great items in the not too distance future.
