A big week building up to Beltane ☀️

From our last big salad pick for Shrub in the polytunnel on Monday, to getting all of our summer tunnel crops in, to keeping up with the watering, and all the other planting, bed prep and weeding tasks that are on the list right now. It’s been a busy busy week here, but one with all the life of Spring surrounding the market garden 🌿The cuckoo has returned, the swallows are diving over the pond for insects and the geese fly by most nights.

This weekend we’ll have our produce with at their new farm shop and we’ll be turning up to Plaistow’s Maypole Fete with produce and plants galore 🥬

It’s only weeks now until our summer crops properly start to kick in, but in the meantime happy Beltane and we hope you have a good weekend 🌕

Come and join us in the kitchen on 18th April for a spring season 'Return of the Larder' — a one-day immersive workshop exploring traditional food skills and how to preserve food to support health and well-being.

Led by eco-nutritionist Daphne Lambert (Greencuisine Trust) and guided by the season, it will be a fun, stimulating day where you’ll learn practical techniques on how to:

✔ create a nourishing diet
✔ maximise nutrition from simple ingredients
✔ bring more vitality into everyday cooking
✔ minimise waste

You will go home with new knowledge as well as jars and preparations made during the day - the beginnings of your own larder!

Set in our barn overlooking the market garden, this is an unique opportunity to enjoy learning about food in the place that it is grown .

After months of grey, rainy days, this week has felt like a giant step into Spring!

Everyone enjoying the sun: the first radish drilling, the seedlings on the prop bench, the dandelions, bugs & honey bees, the cows on their refreshed bedding, the mâche that went into this week’s salad mix to .london and us – doing the first Solanaceae sowings of the year (aubergines, peppers & chillis) 🌱

It’s always special to see and feel the promise of a new season, and we can’t wait to be sharing our produce with all of you once again.

NEW WORKSHOP VENUE ⚡️We’re looking for foodies, creators and teachers to collaborate with. The Barn at Haymans is a spacious eco-build fitted with a kitchen, wood stove and under floor heating. It’s a versatile space and can accommodate groups of 15 or so guests. Share with a friend if you think it could be of relevance to them!
