This repurposed plant stand is a “Curate’s Delight” which affectionately references lower-ranking parish priests, curates, who would frequently make social calls around the parish. They were regularly hosted for afternoon tea, where spaces could be tight. The fold-out surfaces were designed as a space-saving solution. Instead of taking up massive amounts of room on a main table, a hostess or maid could bring out the Curate’s Delight next to the seating area to stack tiers of cucumber sandwiches, scones, and pastries.

Whilst its days of hosting a Victoria sponge are over we think it makes a fantastic plant stand. ‘More tea vicar?’

One of the greatest joys of buying vintage or salvaged is spotting something a little past its best and giving it a whole new purpose. So before you chuck those rusty metal drawers out of the shed think twice. They might just be your next statement piece.
