The Great British Sewing Bee is back for Series 12 on Tuesday 28th July and I am SO excited! 💛

As some of you might know, I was one of the contestants way back in Series 1, and it's amazing to see how much the sewing community and the show have grown since then.

This year we'll be welcoming a brand new host, Sophie Willan, alongside a fresh batch of talented sewists ✂️

The Sewing Bee is always a hot topic in the studio too. We seem to have current and former Bees popping in all the time, whether that's teaching workshops, shopping for fabric or joining us for events 👀

I've been spotting scalloped details everywhere recently and couldn't stop thinking about all the different ways they could be incorporated into a handmade wardrobe.⁠

What I love most is how versatile they are. You can keep things subtle with a scalloped pocket detail or collar, or go all out with a statement hem, neckline, armhole or even a button band.⁠

I've been spotting them everywhere recently, from pretty pocket edges and statement hems to delicate collars and button plackets. They're such a lovely way to add a special finishing touch to your handmade wardrobe.

One sewing tip I’ll never stop recommending? Press every seam as you go. It really is the secret to giving your handmade clothes that neat, polished finish. 💛

One of my favourite tools for this is the Clover Hot Hemmer. It makes hemming so much easier and helps you get super crisp results every time.

One thing I’ve absolutely loved seeing since releasing the Lèana blouse… plain fabric versions ✂️

The details really get their moment to shine 👀 The gathers, the shape, the sleeves, all those lovely little design elements feel completely different depending on the fabric you choose.

And honestly? It’s such a good reminder that the same sewing pattern can become SO many different garments.

Soft and floaty, relaxed and everyday, crisp and structured… it all comes down to the fabric and how you style it ✨

I love how wearable and versatile these versions feel too, the kind of blouse you can really make your own and wear on repeat.

☀️ Why I Love Sewing With Double Gauze ☀️

Double gauze is one of those fabrics I come back to every summer 💛

It’s beautifully soft, breathable and so comfortable to wear, which makes it perfect for relaxed dresses, tops and everyday pieces that you just want to throw on in warm weather.
