Happy place. Decided that I am going to get a lot more strict with food. Got local cheeses, local yoghurt, seasonal fish along with some handknitted gloves and home made cosmetics for early Christmas presents. Get me.

A big thank you to Harriet and George at tretawnfarm for another successful fair yesterday. So many lovely people came along, chatted, browsed and purchased. It was a great atmostphere and always a delight to be amongst the most wonderful supportive people. Packing up was a much easier job with several larger items sold.
I have always been a big fan of army surplus items for a few obvious reasons
a) they are green
b) they are made to be durable
c) they are often reasonably priced.
I nearly didn't take along this box but it went to THE most perfect home, to a lady whose maiden name was D. Coy. Sales happen sometimes in the most delightful way.
One more fair left for '26 and other plans afoot for 2027. Watch this space..

Finally felt safe to head to the woods again today without fear of being crushed by falling branches or needing to carry my military folding shovel...
The hot summer feels like such a long time ago now. Droplets of rain create concentric ripples in pools layered with the muted shades of autumnal leaves. Squirrels are quieter today, gone is the time of chasing each other round knarly trunk and leaping effortlessly from branch to branch. Now is the time for sheltering, preparing with their gathered hoardes of the abundant sweet chestnut harvest that they have been collecting from the ground at their peril. I have seen many a sad, crushed body on the roads in the last week, with few giving much thought for the life of the "tree rat".
My senses are heightened at this point in the day, before the worries and stresses of the day and the world we live in take over my frantic brain. I drink in the colours, textures and sounds of my happy place, where I feel most "me".
My fix to set me up for the day ready for sorting out stock in far from ideal packing conditions but looking forward to seeing everyone at Tretawn tomorrow.

Ps thanks for all your kind messages yesterday. X

Home sweet home. Feeling poorly and going through photos. Worse days to be stuck at home. Logs are stacked and ready and the window is rattling at the windows. Leaves blowing around outside and we are snug and safe.

New stock.
I was so pleased, at the last Enys House antique fair, to sell to a young couple a mahogany butler's tray for cocktails, and a billiards marker. Traditional antiques, often considered old fashioned, put into a modern context.
Given the space, this would be fantastic for social evenings. A Regency mahogany games table, for card games, board games. A chance to get family or friends together.
It measures 75cm high, 46cm wide when folded and 92cm wide when open.
Love the detail of the brass feet ends and casters.

Took the morning off from gardening yesterday to join one of my customers in their apple pressing day. Great company and lovely to see the process and saving of the mountain of apples which we had again. Surpassed last year's 300 bottles of juice and still plenty to be gathered for cake and crumbles.
An unexpected farmhouse dinner was a rare treat too. Country life at it's best.

A photo that inspired so much emotion in me today. Emotions of sadness (always missing my beloved Rodney lurcher), of excitement at seeing so much of what I love in one photo (willow and pine and gardenalia and pots), and also deep frustration at the limitations of life. Just seeing this image of Malcolm Seal by Dave Watts had the desired effect and sent me hotfooting to the newsagents for this weekends FT Weekend . What an issue!
The primary article advertised was about modern day woodlanders, inspired by Thomas Hardy's novels. But imagine my excitement at also finding writeups about the iconic brown betty teapot (seen in photo two from the account ,who clearly has fantastic taste as we both share very similar decor 😁.
Just to top it off, there is also an article about Mouseman Oak Furniture, which thankfully never seems to go out of fashion, the Yorkshire based company started by Robert Thompson which features oak lamps, furniture, cheese boards and even whole rooms featuring that tiny church mouse.
In the meantime, I'm getting an early night in my woodland cottage and dreaming of Gabriel Oak.
Off to Frome early in the morning to find more rustic treasures.
