Taking a little breather 🤍

Our Christmas wreath making classes are always a favourite in my calendar - and spaces are filling up pretty fast! If you’re wanting to book on - don’t leave it too late the link is in my bio!

“Why do you only open at 10?”

Well… if I told you how much happens before 10am, you might not believe me. 😂

Before I can even think about opening the shop door, I have to:

🌷 Take delivery of the morning’s fresh flowers
🌷 Check everything over, condition it all and get it into water ( this takes ages!!!!)
🌷 Make up any orders that have come through overnight
🌷 Deliver funeral flowers to the directors
🌷 Check and organise the day’s delivery route
🌷 Head out on our local morning deliveries
🌷 Race back, get the front of the shop set up and make everything look lovely…

And THEN I open the doors at 10am.

So…. what time would you like me to start? 😂

The bit you see when the shop is open is only a tiny part of running a flower shop. There’s a whole morning’s work happening behind the scenes before most people have even seen me! My open hours are intentional for my business and not because I like a lie in (although I do squeeze them in whenever I can)🤣

wow can you tell filming social media videos is just not top of my list atm (if my intro doesn’t then maybe my eye bags will) 😅 but I did think it is important to showcase this, as it is something that we probably don’t make enough of, this is a eco-base funeral tribute. This is designed for the places where plastic isn’t allowed in the burial grounds or if you’re just a little bit more conscious of what you’re putting into the environment and you want something that will degrade naturally…

We keep it simple. It’s a biolit tray by with Sphagnum moss and we layer dried stems through the moss (like a lasagna?) to give it a bit more of a structure. It’s secured with twine and then we take extra care to make sure that the stems are secure when we place them, and you’ll also find us using harder stems as they go into the base a lot easier.

These do take a bit of practice. You have to work with the way a natural stem is bending. You have to have experience in knowing when a stem is secure. And you have to know which varieties will respond well to this and which won’t.

That’s why I’m feeling some extra gratitude today for all of my training with 🌸

I get so many enquiries from people who are learning, or want to learn, with me — and while I don’t currently offer that service (yet?), I’m always happy to point them in the direction of the place that gave me such a strong foundation.

Because better-trained florists mean higher standards across our industry. And higher standards mean a greater understanding — and perceived value — of the skill, knowledge and craftsmanship that goes into what we do.

Investing in proper training doesn’t just benefit the individual florist. It strengthens the whole industry. 🌸
