I just wanted to put out a little post as I have been inundated with messages from you lovely creatives over the last few months. I feel so privileged that you reach out to ask if I would consider your items for my shop.
As someone who has been market trading for the last 6 years, only selling things that I have made myself, I understand the complex emotions that come with it. Sometimes you feel elated, other times you are rock bottom. But it’s so worth it when someone thinks something you’ve created is worth buying. It’s just the best feeling.
I hate the side of this where I have to tell people that I won’t be able to take their products…
When I opened, I hand picked a number of people that I had met over the previous 6 years to have a little space in my space. Trying to pick items that complimented my own. And I know I picked well. But I cannot emphasise enough how small my space is. It makes it so difficult to be able to say yes to people on the spot, it takes careful consideration not to oversaturate with certain items…and the most important bit for me is that the items remain unique one off pieces as far as is possible. Now don’t get me wrong, I have some things that I’ve just taken a fancy to, but even those items, I spend a long time picking.
If I could, I would say yes to everyone. I sincerely hope that any time I have had to say no, that it does not discourage or cause any negativity. If you are creating, you’re doing an amazing job ❤️
I do have a couple of new makers who shall be coming on board soon, and as I always do, I take a step back once someone new comes on board and think about what would be needed next. It just takes me a bit of time, as I care about getting it right and being fair to the lovely people who let me sell their items.
It’s not in my nature to purposely cause anyone negative feelings or to discourage. I hope to always be supportive. It takes me a bit of time to reply, because I like to make sure I have considered properly. (And sometimes I’m useless at relocating messages 🤣)
But just to say, keep doing what you’re doing. If you’re making anything yourself, no matter what it is then you are already doing something wonderful 🌻
