Coastal Creative Lincs

Coastal Creative Lincs After being made redundant, knitting and crochet became my comfort, leading me to explore hand-dyeing yarn.

Now, I run a small business, bringing hand-dyed yarns to fellow makers through my website and Etsy shop.

My Poppy Socks are coming along nicely.
The main colour is Moss Green, with a band of bright red poppies that I designed myself.
I’m going to add a short-row heel, then continue with a plain foot and finish with a rounded toe.
It’s always lovely seeing an idea from my notebook begin to appear on the needles.

Finished at last, my Viola and Vanilla helical socks for my husband.
I used the helical knitting method to alternate the two colours, creating fine stripes without the usual noticeable jog at the beginning of each round.
Viola was also used for the ribbed cuffs, heel flaps and toes, which frames the Vanilla stripes beautifully. I tried the heel flap and gusset construction on this pair in the hope that it will give my husband a better fit.
Have you tried helical knitting before?

A cosy new pair of socks is taking shape in some of my favourite warm neutral shades.
I am using Creamy Caramel as the main colour, with Teddy Brown, Honey Ginger and Light Brown for the contrasting stripes and details.
I started the socks with a mock cable rib and I am using a short-row heel. The finished pair will have rounded toes.
Do you prefer knitting both socks alongside each other, or finishing one before starting the second?

My Midnight Cats Socks are finished.
The pattern is from the Four Seasons Sock Set Collection by Summer Lee, I could not resist those rows of watchful cats.
I used my hand-dyed Wisteria as the main colour, with Black / Charcoal for the cats and Neon Green for their eyes.
For my pair, I used 2.5mm needles for the main sock and changed to 3mm needles for the stranded colourwork. Going up a needle size helped to give the colourwork a little more room.
Do you change needle size when knitting stranded colourwork?

Christmas sock knitting is underway using my Holly and Ivy hand-dyed sock set.
For this pair, I decided to alternate the green and Vanilla on the cuffs and stranded colourwork bands. I also plan to reverse the colours on the heels and toes so that the socks coordinate without matching exactly.
Do you prefer perfectly matching socks, or a coordinating pair with the colours reversed?

A new pair of socks for my husband, knitted using my Viola and Vanilla hand-dyed yarns.
I used the helical knitting method to alternate the two colours and create these narrow stripes without a noticeable join.
I am adding a heel flap and gusset. It is not my favourite heel to knit, but I am hoping it will give my husband a better fit.
Which sock heel do you prefer to knit: a heel flap and gusset or a short-row heel?
My hand-dyed yarn is available through the link in my bio.

My Sweet Shop Blanket is beginning to grow, with 12 colourful squares now completed.
I am knitting it with my DK semi-solid mini skeins, using Vanilla as the main colour. I love seeing how each new colour looks against the neutral background, although deciding which colour to use next may be the hardest part.

I have bought Summer Lee's year-long Four Seasons Sock Set collection, with three new seasonal sock patterns released four times throughout the year.
One of the first patterns was Midnight Cats Socks, and I could not resist casting them on, despite already having far too many socks on my needles.
I am using yarn hand dyed by me: Wisteria for the main colour, Black / Charcoal for the cats, and Neon Green for their eyes. Those bright little eyes really bring the cats to life.
How many pairs of socks do you currently have on the needles? Please tell me I am not the only one who keeps starting another pair.

A little project inspiration for my new Infinity Cowl yarn set.
I knitted this striped Infinity Cowl - Scarf using colourful semi-solid mini skeins balls with a light brown main colour between each stripe. I love how the neutral shade brings all the different colours together.
The yarn set includes:
24 x 5g hand-dyed 4 Ply / Sock mini skein balls
A light brown main skein in your choice of 50g or 100g
The finished cowl is shown as an example of what you could make. The listing is for the yarn only, although I have included a short explanation of how I knitted mine in the description.
The yarn set is available now through the link in my bio, or search Coastal Creative Lincs on Etsy.

I have started a new project - the Sweet Shop Blanket by Laura Penrose.
I am using my hand-dyed DK 10g mini skeins with Vanilla as the main colour. The soft neutral background really allows all the little pops of colour to stand out.
It should be a lovely project for using lots of different mini skeins, and I am looking forward to watching the blanket grow.
Do you enjoy choosing each colour as you go, or would you plan the full colour order before starting?
