It's been a good few weeks since we've posted as we've been extremely busy with a whole house refresh which took us about a month but there's no pictures unfortunately and we've just this week finished a refresh on a kitchen and utility.

To be fair, the kitchen doesn't look much different from a distance as it was simply white over white but close up it's much brighter and fresher. The woodwork was all yellowed oil-based gloss so that's now significantly brighter.

🎨 Woodwork primed in Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 and top coated in Johnstone's Aquaguard durable white satin.
🎨 Outside door small rust cavity repaired and finished in Zinsser AllCoat white satin.

A few images below of the hall, stairs & landing (HSL) we've just completed for a new local client and really wish we'd remembered to take some "before" pics.

What the previous decorator, and I use that term very loosely, had done, looked sort of OK cosmetically, but turned out to be very not OK once we started our professional prep. The wall paint was of poor quality and had no grip on the underlying surface and once we started sanding, it was all coming off, revealing the original colour below, so what started as beige turned yellow - fantastic!

The woodwork also had it's issues as the water-based paint had been applied straight over oil-based gloss with no prep, so again, once the sanding started, it all wanted to come off in tiny little sheets - absolute nightmare!

So after significantly more prep than expected and some extra TLC in certain areas, we ended up with what you can see in the images, which has been done right and will be long lasting.

We've not posted for a bit as we've had a bit of time off and once back, got stuck straight into this big job for a new local client. Essentially, the brief was to give the kitchen, dining room, lounge, hall, stairs & landing a refresh and neutralise some of the, let's say 'bolder' existing colours, with a view to putting the property on the market.

Most of it was straightforward, the textured papered walls and ceilings cleaned and painted and the client is going to do the woodwork, hence the floor coverings left down in the pics. The wall under the dining room window was in a bad way and even worse when we stripped the wallpaper off along with half the plaster 😢. After much filling and sanding we sorted that out.

It's been a while since we posted as we've been busy with a large kitchen, hall, stairs & landing project plus taking a couple of weeks out for a holiday.

Everywhere was fully sanded as usual and given a freshen up with a new colour scheme. The HSL was a bit more involved with sorting some big cracks out and replacing some old lining paper plus sealing the paint with lacquer.

Well, that was a warm one this week! A straightforward kitchen refresh for a new local client that's white all round so superficially, it looked no different when we'd done, but if you look closer, there's a huge difference in the finish and quality.

Everywhere dustless sanded as always where possible, hand sanded where not, cleaned and then given two coats of trade quality paint.

There's some pictures in the comments of the protection we put in place for the various surfaces, i.e. hard floor protection, plastic sheeting over the units, radiator & door, and tape where needed. Nobody wants to see their possessions covered in paint spatter, drips (it happens 😊), mess etc., so we go the extra mile to make sure everything is covered and protected.

A lounge refresh last week in for a new client in Burley in Wharfedale. There's no "before" pictures as the colour scheme is exactly the same.

What was in theory a straightforward job turned out to be a bit more involved as once the radiator was removed. the wallpaper behind it was in a shocking state so we set about sorting that out. The old paper pretty much fell off and revealed some foil backed insulation, also very poorly adhered. All this was removed and neatly cut back, sanded, sealed with Zinsser Gardz and replaced using Wallrock Dampstop Thermic and Fibreliner Smooth. Once the joins to the existing lining paper were filled and painted, it was an invisible join.

We finished the large open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge this week that we posted earlier showing the initial prep work. Superficially, the rooms look the same as it was new white over old white, but close up, the effort and use of quality materials really shows.

Being an open plan area, it's been quite disruptive for the clients, but they've been absolutely great, and their patience whilst we've effectively taken over the ground floor for a fortnight has been appreciated.

We had a little break last week for some spring sunshine, so started midweek on this large open plan lounge/diner/kitchen plus utility and entrance. As yet there's little to actually see but thought it worth showing how much prep there is involved before even opening a tin of paint.

We've put down hard floor protector everywhere, covered the fixtures and cabinets etc with plastic sheeting and covered the furniture that can't be removed with dust sheets. The light fittings have been removed where possible and the remaining spot lights lowered with SPOT DROPS®.

There's around two days of sanding to look forward to now to get everything ready for painting but the results will be worth it.

Our diary for the summer is filling up fast and we're now looking at taking bookings from around the back end of July.
