Hosker Haynes is excited by the quality of the coins in the ancient section ranging from early Greek to the later Roman period.
The collectors who placed their coins with Hosker Haynes to auction obviously had a very keen eye. Here are some of the lots coming up
in the next auction.
Take a look at the Nero, Dupondius, with Nero’s laureate head left, with globus at point of neck. The reverse depicts Securitas, bare to waist, seated right on throne, resting head against right hand and holding short sceptre in left, in front of lighted andgarlanded altar on which leans lighted torch resting on a bucranium.
This is a stunning coin and would sit well within most collections.
There is something about ancient gold and the Honorius Solidus of Mediolanum (Milan) mint make me realise that whilst things are not made
to last now, take a look at this, this grades about extremely fine, so didn’t get much use back in early part of the 5th Century.
