Elderly Bathroom Adaptation – Walk-In Shower Conversion

We recently completed this elderly bathroom adaptation, replacing the existing bath with a safer and more accessible walk-in shower area.

The existing bath was carefully removed and replaced with a low-level anti-slip shower tray, providing easier and safer access while reducing the risk of slips and trips.

A new modern shower system was installed, along with a spacious shower enclosure featuring double sliding middle doors. This provides a much wider opening and makes getting in and out of the shower considerably easier, particularly for anyone with limited mobility.

The adaptation was designed with safety, accessibility and ease of use in mind, while still providing a clean and modern finish.

Shower Room Adaptation – Completed Works

The existing shower room has been fully upgraded to provide a safer, more accessible and practical bathing facility, with particular consideration given to the user’s ability to shower safely while seated.

The existing shower enclosure and fittings were removed and replaced with a new low-level shower tray incorporating a suitable shower seat. A grab handle has also been installed within the shower area to provide additional support and stability when entering, exiting and using the shower. The shower fittings have been positioned to allow convenient operation from the seated position.

The existing wash hand basin and WC have been retained, with the surrounding finishes upgraded to provide a clean, durable and more easily maintained environment.

The existing wall tiles were removed and the walls were prepared and fully re-tiled, providing a waterproof and hygienic finish throughout the shower room. New floor tiling was also installed to provide a durable and suitable floor surface.

All works were completed to provide an improved showering environment, with the new shower tray, shower seat and grab handle offering enhanced safety, support and accessibility. The completed room provides a more suitable facility for seated showering and reduces the risks associated with standing for prolonged periods or negotiating the previous shower arrangement.

Bathroom Adaptation

The existing bath was removed to improve accessibility and provide a safer, more practical bathing facility. A walk-in shower area with an anti-slip shower tray was installed, providing easier and safer access for the occupant without the need to step over the side of a bath.

The shower area was finished with PVC shower splash wall panels, providing a waterproof, low-maintenance surface that is easy to clean and maintain. The existing shower fittings were retained/installed to provide a practical showering facility.

A slip-resistant LVT flooring system was installed throughout the bathroom to provide a durable and safer floor finish, helping to reduce the risk of slips and falls.

The existing toilet and wash hand basin were retained in their original positions and left as existing, as these were suitable for the occupant’s needs and did not require alteration.

Overall, the adaptation provides a more accessible and safer bathroom environment by replacing the bath with a walk-in shower, while retaining the existing sanitaryware and incorporating slip-resistant and waterproof finishes throughout.

This bathroom was transformed from a dated suite into a modern, practical shower room with improved accessibility and contemporary finishes throughout.

Work completed:

* Existing wall tiles, bath, vanity unit, and sanitaryware removed.
* Walls prepared and fitted with new plasterboard where required.
* Old bath removed and replaced with a spacious walk-in shower featuring a low-profile anti-slip shower tray, glass enclosure, and thermostatic rainfall shower.
* New modern vanity basin unit and mirror installed.
* New comfort-height WC fitted for improved comfort and accessibility.
* Full wall tiling completed in large-format contemporary tiles for a sleek, low-maintenance finish.
* New slip-resistant LVT flooring installed throughout.
* New electric heated towel rail fitted.
* New ceiling installed with integrated LED downlights to brighten the room.
* All plumbing and finishing works completed to a high standard.
* All waste materials and rubbish removed from site, leaving the bathroom clean and ready for use.
