We recently welcomed Roger Hitchen, a local photographer and artist to the shop, with his newly printed greetings cards. Here is a little introduction to his work:
"In my professional life I worked in Art and Design Education and in 2009 I retired
and soon began to draw and paint again, feeling that I wanted to go back to my roots,
alongside my ongoing interest in photography.
In 2020, Covid came along, changing all of our lives, and so I spent much of my
time painting in my home studio in Brighouse. I had a large collection of my own
photographs of water lilies from an earlier exhibition and thought these might make
interesting inspiration for paintings, particularly engaging with the colours these offered and this led to further exploration of space, light and shade within the paintings.
I continue to work on floral themes though, from time to time, have explored other subjects such as during 2022 when I did a series of drawings of mainly water birds in artist pastels.
Recently I have adapted some of my photography and artwork into greeting card designs."
