Before we make the first cut…

Every length of fabric is carefully rolled out and checked before we begin making.

We look for weaving faults, marks, colour variations and any little imperfections that might affect the finished piece.

It’s an important part of the making process, and one that’s easily overlooked. Taking the time to check everything at this stage helps ensure that the finished curtains or blinds are as beautiful as they should be.

Just one of the many little details that go into making something bespoke.

Softly filtering the light.

There’s something lovely about the way sheer fabrics soften a room, allowing natural light to filter through while adding warmth, texture and a little privacy.

For this beautiful home designed by Georgie Cowell , we created a combination of full-length sheer curtains and Roman blinds, each carefully made to complement the windows and the surrounding interiors.

The lightweight fabrics bring a softness to the architectural details without taking away from the views or the natural light.

Sometimes it’s the simplest window treatments that make the biggest difference.

We had the lovely jade from Social Butterfly Studios | Content Studio come into the studio the other week to take some photos.

It’s lovely to see all the finished products but I wanted to share some of the behind the scenes of how everything is made. Hand stitched using traditional techniques.

Our items aren’t mass produced, each made bespoke to the window and customers taste.

Beautifully made, beautifully finished

Curtains made in this lovely Colefax and Fowler fabric, with a hand-finished pinch pleat heading.

We’ve interlined them not only to add warmth and improve their thermal properties, but also because of the beautiful weight and softness it gives the curtains. It helps them hang perfectly and gives that wonderfully luxurious feel.

Finished to just skim the floor — one of my favourite details.

A little bit of lampshade joy

A pair of custom hand-stitched shades made in the Pindrop workroom.

We worked with the pattern of this gorgeous printed linen to position the motif perfectly across each shade, then finished them by hand with ivory braid and a wonderfully generous fringe.

I love making these smaller bespoke shades — there’s something about the combination of pattern, shape and trim that can turn a tiny lampshade into a real feature.

Pidrop is back in full swing.

After the summer holidays, we’re back in full swing and it’s so lovely to have the workroom busy again.

We’ve got lots of beautiful projects underway, plenty more lined up for the autumn… and apparently September is also birthday season at Pindrop!

Lots of birthdays in the team over the next few weeks, so there may be slightly more cake than usual alongside the curtains, blinds and cushions.

It feels good to have everyone back.

We’re coming to the end of the summer holidays and, after a slightly quieter few weeks here at Pindrop juggling childcare and keeping everything ticking along behind the scenes, I’m really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

Here are a few pictures from a recent project we worked on for Georgie Cowell

With the summer we’ve had, sheers like these really come into their own. Across large expanses of glass, they help soften the glare and filter the sunlight while still keeping rooms feeling light and airy — as well as adding a lovely softness to the space.

This project came with a tight deadline, so we brought in the brilliant Sarah Sarah Tranter to help with the blinds. Having trusted collaborators we can call on means we can take on larger projects while making sure everything is completed beautifully and on time.

A lovely project to have been part of — and now we’re ready for a busy autumn at Pindrop

DON’T FORGET — OUR CHARITY AUCTION IS STILL LIVE!

There’s still time to bid on three one-of-a-kind, handmade Pindrop lampshades.

We’re auctioning all three to raise money for Fred’s Team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as my brother Steve and his partner Laura prepare to run the New York City Marathon this November.

After Steve’s leukaemia diagnosis last year, this is a cause that means an enormous amount to our family, and I’d love to raise as much as we possibly can for them.

It’s a sealed-bid auction, so all bids remain private

This bespoke roller blind is a lovely example of how a practical window treatment can still feel considered and beautifully finished.

Roller blinds are a great option where you want something simple and streamlined.
