Don’t ask ChatGPT for colour and home decor advice!! Please 🙏🏻

I know it can be overwhelming but there are lots of ways you can tune in to your own colour preferences. Here are a few ideas:
- Go out in nature and look at the wonderful colour combinations in the various seasons. Which is your favourite season?
- Look at the decor of your favourite café or local restaurant
- Think about which of your friends homes you most like to be in
- Think about your favourite artists and look at the colour combinations in their work.
- Also there were great designs and colour combinations in fabrics both in fashion and in Interiors.
- And if you really lack confidence I’d advise you to go to your local paint shop. When I worked for I love advising customers on colour choices. The other day I was talking to the manager at a studio and I know they give great advice on colours and colour combinations.

Slow interiors

Have you heard of the phrase ‘buy cheap buy twice?’ I’m very encouraged by the continued rise in interest in vintage clothing and vintage Interiors.

The secondhand market means there is no obstacle to having nice things for a budget price.

Many people are turning away from a society built on excess consumerism. We simply don’t have the resources within the planet to sustain this.

The other side of this is that making changes that follow fashion can be dissatisfying. Any pleasure is short-lived. The alternative is to go a little bit deeper into your own taste and work out what you like. Go beyond fashion and you’ll find that the choices you make will last a lot longer. This means that for bigger items and more expensive items you can splash out a bit.

I’m about to spend £££ on a deep blue velvet sofa. And I’m very excited about it. But I expect it to last me at least 20 years. So that’s about £100 per year?

Are you into slow Interiors? Do you buy vintage? Value quality furniture making skills? If so, I applaud you. This is a trend that I can really get behind.

You are cordially invited to my cosy workshop this autumn to be held at the beautiful artist residence in the centre of Bristol.

September is a great month for a reset. The summer holidays are over, the kids are back at school. After the heat and chaos this summer it’s time to look forward to a quieter time at home. A lovely time to come together for a reset.

This workshop is for you if:
- You feel frustrated by your home
- You wish you could make changes as easily as the snap of the fingers of an Instagram/ tiktok influencer
- You feel confused and overwhelmed by the endless and conflicting advice
- You are curious about the link between psychology and design

There is so much perfectly curated content about interiors it’s easy to feel confused, frustrated and overwhelmed by choices. Most of us have an endless ‘To Do’ list when it comes to our homes. It’s really easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to other people and feeling lacking.

In my relaxed and informal workshop I want to turn your ideas about interior design and home decor on its head! I’m going to do that by encouraging you to think about yourself first. Forget about wallpaper or paint colours for the moment. What do you like? How are you different? What are your needs (What’s your family’s needs) and how does your home meet them? What are the real pain points and how might we solve them? I will dive into the subjects of human psychology and design psychology and personality at home as well as interior design.

At the end of this workshop, I aim to:
- Help you to feel happier at home
- Increase your confident with future design choices
- Remove the overwhelm so you are clear about what does and doesn’t need fixing.

The Artist Residence is a beautiful venue in Portland Square near Cabot Circus. We will gather in the library with hot drinks and delicious cakes. All materials are provided. No prep is needed. Just bring yourself. I can’t wait to meet you.

Price £28. Drinks and snacks included. Max # 20.

The end!

So here we are - 22 days of me reading from my book to give potential readers an idea of what’s in the book and what I do to help people with their Interiors.

I start from the opposite end to the world of influencers and magazines; which are very image led. But actually my approach is not disimilar to many Interior designers. I ask people who they are before moving onto what they like.

However I may go a little deeper than most designers as I use my psychology and intuition? 🕵️‍♀️ sometimes it feels like I’m a detective. An Interior Design detective!

What have I learned from doing this exercise? Not sure yet. I’ll report back if I find any nuggets of wisdom.

In the meantime have fun with your homes and yourselves… but please have fun and above all? Don’t take it too seriously.

Today’s day 20 of me reading from my book ‘Your Design Personality at Home’ and we are talking about childhood memories and evoking happy times through your Interiors.

This can be done in so many ways: a painting, a rug, a smell. The key is to replicate something that makes you feel good!

Yesterday I was sitting on a bench with my sister that was so high that we were swinging our legs like little kids. We both agree that this was fun and that it reminded us of being so small that our feet couldn’t touch the floor.

What fun and happiness invoking design elements do you have in your home?

Day 19 of me reading from my book ‘Your Design Personality at Home’ and today I’m talking about values and beliefs.

What we believe in forms an important part of our identity - who we are. Whether we are kind, generous, family oriented, chasing creative or financial goals. You can tell quite a lot about someone’s values from the way they decorate their home. Do they like luxury and new things? Do they have a lot of plants? Is the home just for them or do they like hosting others?

Tomorrow I’ll be talking about family and childhood influences on our taste and then I’ll show you how I help clients pull everything together.

How do you think your beliefs affect how you decorate your house? Can you see the link?
