Thatchers Thursday

Its been a little while since we did a Thatchers Thursday but with the colours of the trees changing around us with such vivid oranges, reds and yellows emerging from greens - the colour palette reminded us of our scheme at Myrtle Farm.

Wylde were appointed by Thatchers to design the inside space of the new HQ, perched two floors up in a brand-new distribution centre. This new building created an opportunity to bring all the departments together in one office space.

The brief was simply to accommodate seventy desks for a staff-only environment, with a more flexible space to cater periodically for an eighty strong sales team, meeting rooms, and a large conference room and ante area for one hundred staff.

University of the Reading - Wager Social Space

The project was delivered within fixed budgets and challenging timescales, requiring careful consideration of both design and procurement. Furniture and acoustic treatments played a key role in creating the warm, comfortable and inviting atmosphere within each of the social spaces, while ensuring they remained practical and adaptable for everyday student use.

Each zone (both Agriculture and Wager) was given its own distinct identity, inspired by and responding to the character of the faculty building in which it sits. This approach has helped create environments that feel individual and connected to their surroundings, while still forming part of a wider university setting.

Both social spaces have been very well received by university staff and students alike, providing much-needed places to pause, connect, work and relax between the demands of university life.

Bird of the Week

This week we're embracing the time of year - we're truly into autumnal swing of things. The weather has changed and the light is fading, so we've decided it's time for some owls! Tawny owls in the UK are very vocal and territorial at this time of year, making October one of the best times of year to hear them. The classic call "too-wit-too-woo" is actually a combination of two birds. The female makes a sharp "too-wit" sound and the male answers with a long, wavering "too-woo".

We're so thrilled to be able to share some finished photos of our project at the University of Reading.

The brief from the university was to transform two previously underutilised spaces into homely, comfortable and functional social environments. The aim was to create welcoming areas where students could take a break from their busy university schedules, settle in and make themselves at home - whether that meant having a coffee, eating lunch, catching up on some work, meeting friends or simply relaxing before heading to their next commitment.

Last week after our evening at Bristol Museum for the Women in Property South West and the Bristol Property Agents Association event, we popped across the road to find a bite to eat.

It's Bristol - the turnover of spaces, particularly in the hospitality sector, can be rapid which often leaves spaces looking tired, half done or quite obviously on the cheap. We found a very cute noodle spot housed in what used to be a Brizzle food institution Rocatillos - the American-style diner shut the original Clifton Triangle restaurant in February 2020 after more than 26 years in business. The new restaurant has kept the tiles and made a simple yet well thought out design choice to compliment them. (The noodles were great too!)

In the blog this week; Wylde Women

At Wylde, we’re proud to be an all-women team, championing creativity, collaboration and the power of women in business.

Our story began in 1996, when Tracey Wylde, our Director, founded Wylde driven by a need to work flexibly around her growing family. What started as a way to balance work and family life soon grew into something much bigger. As our workload increased and recommendations from happy clients continued to come in, it became clear that bringing on board like-minded designers was essential. And so, Wylde grew!

Today, we’re a tight-knit, award-winning team led by Tracey Wylde and Co-Director Amy Stone. We’re incredibly hard-working and professional, passionate about what we do and committed to delivering the very best for our clients. But we also believe that work should be enjoyable. We support one another, celebrate our successes and, most importantly, have fun along the way.

Tracey’s journey is a brilliant example of what women can achieve when they have the opportunity to build a business around their ambitions, values and lives. Her story also reflects something we believe strongly at Wylde: that success doesn’t have to follow a traditional path, and that building a thriving business and a fulfilling life can go hand in hand.

On Thursday last week we had a Wylde night out!

We attended the Night at the Museum Autumn Party - a joint networking event hosted by Women in Property and the Bristol Property Agents Association (BPAA) at Bristol Museum.

The event took place from 6-11pm which meant we spent time inside the museum after hours, enjoying an evening of drinks, nibbles, networking and even a scavenger hunt with private access to select exhibits! There were some incredible costumes - even dinosaurs attending!

We love any excuse to get together not only as a team but also with our industry and to support women across the property sector. Thanks for having us, it was great to be back together as the whole team and to see so many familiar faces!

Bird of the Week

Did you know October is the best month to spot Jays in the UK because these normally shy birds leave the dense woodland to forage and bury acorns for the winter. They're beautiful feathered friends with their reddish brown colour with bright blue flash complimented with white and black stripes!
