OUR NEW SEASON OF CLASSES

AUTUMN 2026 • BRIXHAM SEWING BOX

We’re delighted to share the first dates in our new programme of sewing, dressmaking, crochet and creative textile classes at Brixham Sewing Box. Whether you’re picking up a needle for the very first time, want to get more from your sewing machine, or are ready to develop your garment-making skills, there’s plenty to choose from - with more classes and dates still to come including knitting and quilting.

Our classes are friendly and relaxed, and are led by qualified, highly experienced teachers with many years of professional and teaching experience. Every class is also supported by two members of our own team, so friendly help is always close at hand - from getting settled and setting up equipment to patient, one-to-one guidance throughout the session. Places are deliberately limited so that everyone receives plenty of individual attention.

We want your time with us to feel like more than simply attending a class. Full-day classes include a freshly prepared two-course lunch, with a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic alternative, while our shorter classes include refreshments and teatime treats. Each guest also receives one of our thoughtfully prepared gift bags. Dietary requirements are warmly accommodated, and our teaching space is fully accessible, helping everyone to feel comfortable and welcome.

THERE ARE SEWING CLASSES - AND THEN THERE IS LEARNING FROM SOMEONE WHO REALLY KNOWS THEIR CRAFT.🧵

We still have a few spaces next Sunday 23rd August for our ‘Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine With a Difference’ day.
And the ‘with a difference’ bit matters.

Your tutor, Janet Williams, brings many years of specialist sewing, dressmaking, overlocker and international teaching experience to the classroom.

This isn't simply a day of making something pretty.

This is proper tuition - understanding your machine, discovering what it can actually do, correcting the little things that may have been holding you back, and learning techniques you'll use long after the class is over.

Beginners are very welcome - but even experienced sewists regularly leave Janet's classes saying, “I never knew my machine could do that!”

And because we think learning is much nicer with good food, your day also includes:
🍽️ A freshly prepared two-course lunch
🥂 A glass of wine or non-alcoholic alternative
🍰 Afternoon treats
🎁 A lovely gift bag
✂️ All your practice fabrics and materials

Sunday 23rd August | 10 am to 4 pm | £85

If you own a sewing machine but suspect you're only using a fraction of what it can do, this is the day for you.

Learn properly. Sew confidently. Enjoy your machine. 🪡

IT WAS A BIT OF A WORKSHOP DAY ON MONDAY 😊

The photos tell the story.

While our students were busy creating, Scott was tackling one of the less glamorous jobs - making sure everything was beautifully pressed and ready. He's become quite a dab hand with that iron! 😄

Our wonderful tutor, Janet Williams, guided everyone through Part 2 of Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine – Fancy Feet, where they learnt piping, appliqué, pintucks, invisible zips, heirloom sewing and couching. By the end of the day, everyone had created a beautiful cushion cover to take home, along with a host of new skills and techniques.

But workshop days don't just happen.

Before the first stitch is sewn, the shop becomes a classroom; with tables set up and crates of fabrics moved. Lunch is prepared, wine is poured, swatches are cut, bobbins are wound, threads matched, trimmings gathered, machines tweaked - and, of course, plenty of ironing! Then it's time for a well-earned cup of sweet tea and a couple of chocolate Hobnobs. ☕🍪 see the last photo! 😄

It's a lot of work behind the scenes, but seeing everyone leave with new skills, new confidence and smiling faces makes every minute worthwhile.

A huge thank you to Janet for sharing her expertise, and to my brilliant wingman and manager, Scott, for helping everything run so smoothly.

Over the past year, we've welcomed more than 250 people through our workshop doors, and we're incredibly grateful to every one of you. ❤️

If you've attended one of our classes, we'd love to hear from you. What did you enjoy most? Was it learning a new technique, meeting like-minded people, or simply taking a day out to sew, chat and relax? Your comments really do help others who are thinking about joining us.

If you've never been before, perhaps we'll see you at one of our upcoming workshops!

See you soon.

HERE'S OUR BRAND NEW WEBSITE! 🎉

Well - it's finally here! 😊

Welcome to Anchor & Thimble - the brand new online shopping home of Brixham Sewing Box.

If you've ever wished you could browse the shelves of Brixham Sewing Box from the comfort of your own sofa, now you can!

After months of photographing products, writing descriptions, uploading stock and drinking rather a lot of tea along the way, I'm so excited to finally share the Anchor & Thimble website with you.

DON’T WORRY THOUGH - BRIXHAM SEWING BOX ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE!

Our shop in Brixham is still very much here, just as it always has been. Anchor & Thimble simply makes it easier for you to shop with us wherever you are.

There's already a lovely selection of fabrics, haberdashery, gifts and some of my original designs for you to browse, but this really is just the beginning.

We’ll be adding new products every week, so if you don't find exactly what you're looking for today, please pop back again soon. There are lots more fabrics, sewing goodies and original gift ideas waiting to appear over the coming weeks.

One thing that will never change is the personal service. If you can't make it to Brixham Sewing Box but would like to see fabrics properly before you buy, I'd be delighted to arrange a FaceTime shopping appointment. I'll take you on a tour of the shop, hold fabrics up to the camera, compare colours, answer your questions and help you choose exactly what you need - all from the comfort of your own home.

Creating the Anchor & Thimble website has been a much bigger project than I ever imagined, and I honestly couldn't have done it without the help and support of some wonderful people.
A huge thank you to my fantastic manager, Scott Gubbin, who has been there every step of the way with his enthusiasm, encouragement and practical help. Special thanks as well to Scott Matthews at Define the Light Photography for the beautiful photography, and to Mandy and Steve at Lifeboat Marketing for all their hard work and expertise. 🤗

I'd love you to have a browse and let me know what you think. And if you know someone who loves sewing, quilting or crafting, I'd be grateful if you could share this post with them too. Every share really does help a small independent business.

Thank you for being part of the Brixham Sewing Box journey over the years, and now for joining me on this exciting new chapter with Anchor & Thimble. ❤️

I hope you enjoy having a look around - and remember, this is only the beginning!

And of course, if you're in Brixham, we'd still love to welcome you into Brixham Sewing Box for a chat, a browse and a cup of inspiration.

See you soon,

🌟Make One Pair - Learn to Make Hundreds. 🌟

There are plenty of sewing classes that promise you'll finish a garment in a day.

But if you've ever made something that twisted, pulled, didn't fit properly or ended up at the back of the wardrobe, you'll know that making clothes well takes more than simply stitching pieces together.

Our three-day Palazzo Pants Masterclass is completely different.

Over three carefully structured days you'll learn not only how to make a beautifully finished pair of palazzo trousers, but why each stage matters. You'll understand fitting, proportion, fabric choice, construction techniques and the professional finishing details that make the difference between a homemade garment and one you'll be proud to wear.

This isn't a production line.

It's a premium learning experience with expert tutor Jane Norris, plus two additional in-house hosts supporting you throughout, so there's always someone available to help with fitting, questions and those little moments when things don't quite go to plan.

By the end of the course you'll leave with:
✨ Beautifully fitting palazzo trousers made for your body.
✨ Professional construction techniques you'll use again and again.
✨ The confidence to make many more pairs in different fabrics and styles.
✨ Skills that will improve every garment you sew in the future.

Add freshly prepared lunches, afternoon treats, a gift bag and a warm, friendly atmosphere, and it's three wonderful days spent investing in yourself.

📅 Sunday 2nd August, Monday 3rd August, Monday 10th August
🕙 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
💷 £255

Places are deliberately limited so everyone receives individual attention.

See you soon

🎉 A Warm Welcome to Our New Neighbours! 🎉

Today is the day Morrisons Daily opens its doors in Brixham, right next door to us!

We've had the pleasure of meeting the lovely owners and would like to wish them every success as they become part of our community.

The official opening is at 12 noon, when our Mayor will cut the ribbon to the sound of bagpipes. There will also be gift bags for the first 80 customers.

Our little contribution has been making the giant ribbon for the Mayor to cut. We don't often get asked to make giant bows, but we couldn't resist the challenge! 🎀

If you're in town today, come along and join in the celebrations.

Good luck to everyone at Morrisons Daily - we're delighted to have you as our new neighbours. Welcome to Brixham! 😊
