There is something magical about standing on the sand with the waves crashing at your feet, whilst you look, longingly out at sea, with a sense of belonging. My aim to connect to others in sharing how I see the world through my inspirations of colour, pattern & texture.

Coming up..this October..

I sat here for most of this evening plucking up to courage to share a blog I have created today on ‘A Postcard from Ramsgate’ Exhibition…on at Plunder in collaboration with Ramsgate Community Gallery. 😱

🎨 East Kent Artist Open Houses, starts this weekend 10th October, running over the next three weekend in October. As always I do invade my sister Ami Blastock Jewellery studio, I think for the 8th year running and we also have a guest maker - Jenny Duff : tablemats placemats & coasters joining us on the 10th & 11th weekend.

It’s an annual event and has been going on for 20 year +. From Faversham to Deal artist have been participating in each town trail and opening their studios across East Kent, free entry. Come and say hello!

The secret sauce…🥫

From idea - one of my illustration to completion - one of my prints…

Screen printing does involve some technical processes, all of which involve a key component to make all my screens - in house too…I don’t send my screens away, I make every stencil myself. 🙌🏻

The secret sauce to all of this is my acetate or tracing paper transfers. This is how I get my drawing off the paper and onto my screens.

It is the ONLY step where my illustration is EVER digital…as I have to scan my drawings into my computer for a clean up and, more importantly, to be able to print straight onto the acetate or tracing paper.

Fact: 💻+ 🖨️ = only once! 👍😊 (unless I f*** up the transfers 🤣)

This is only just part of the screen making story.

💎I’m Gem, the one behind Turquoise Gem Home. 😊
I’m a screen printer and artist, with over 20 years experience of screen printing with a BA Degree in Textiles & Surface Design… which I graduated from back in 2004 . 😱😱

Not many people know this fact, I worked for John Lewis for well over 11 years within that time window too, in various departments and roles including management. 🛍️

📆You can actually meet me in person this weekend and the next two as part of East Kent Artist Open Houses (10th/11th, 17th/18th & 24th/25th Oct)
