There are now more than 25 local councils in England, that are refusing refrigeration products, including heat pump dryers, in the recycling centres. All because the government are relying on private, poorly run companies, to recycle the old appliances. Scotland currently has only one company carrying out all of its refrigeration recycling.
It’s about time the government made all the manufacturers build all appliances that will last more than 10 years, and make the parts available for them for over 20 years. It might cost us a wee bit more, but wouldn’t it be nice to have appliances that last! Better for the environment, better for our pocket!

A recycling firm collapsed in 2025, leaving the appliances in limbo until a takeover is complete.

The final deadline is 19 January 2027. After this date, manufacturers wont be able to supply retailers or consumers with Vented or Condenser dryers.
