Who knew a cheese board could be so interesting?

Matt shares what the patterns mean in this particular piece of wood.

Before it was furniture, it was a tree.
The upcoming Grown in Britain Week feels like a particularly good moment to celebrate something that sits right at the heart of Nuthatch Creations: British-grown timber.
We love wood not just because it is beautiful, but because it has a story. We think the story of a piece of furniture should begin long before it arrives in your home.
That is why provenance matters so much to us. Knowing where the tree grew is important to us. Far too much wood is imported into the UK from unknown forests in far away counties.
We’re proud to be Grown in Britain certified, and proud to make furniture from British timber.

There's been something rather smaller than a dining table on Matt's workbench this week. He's been making wooden bookmarks. They're simple little things, but even here, the wood gets to be the interesting part. The grain, the colour, the markings. Each one comes out slightly differently. Most of what Matt makes will eventually become part of someone's home. And these are just small enough to slip inside a book. A little piece of the workshop to take with you.
We've made a small batch, and they're available now through our website, if you'd like one.

A little local bargain for someone looking for a new dining table…
We made this table here in our Bromyard workshop especially to display at an open day, and now that the event has finished, we’d really rather see it become the heart of someone’s home than have it sitting in our workshop.
So we’re offering this table at a reduced price of £1,863 (a saving of £300)
It is handmade from oak, it measures 184cm x 98cm and is ready now – so unlike our usual tables, which are made to order, there’s no waiting for us to make it.
The table is made from British grown oak, and comes with a certificate showing where the tree grew.
Because this one was made as our display table, there is only one available at this price.

We made this dining table for an open day at Whitney Sawmills. We don’t have the space to store it, so we are selling it at a discounted price. The price includes free delivery and installation to a room of your choice. Dimensions: 184cm long x 98cm wide The Heartwood is the quintessential fa

It is our belief that furniture should remain connected to the landscape it came from—thoughtfully made from traceable British timber and crafted to celebrate the individual story of every tree.

Summer parties, food passed around the table, people reaching across for bread, someone bringing out more cheese, and everyone lingering a little longer than planned.
Our British oak serving boards are made for exactly this kind of eating — relaxed, generous and shared. https://www.nuthatchcreations.co.uk/shop/serving-boards

When the sun is at it’s hottest Stitch chooses to go and bask in the sun. He bakes until he overheats and then comes back inside the house to lay on a cool floor!

We are thrilled to be part of Grown in Britain!

It was great to meet Lara and Matt from Nuthatch Creations, some of the latest holders of Grown in Britain Chain of Custody certification, at last week’s Whitney Sawmills Open Day.

Showcasing their handcrafted furniture at the event, they spoke about their passion for restoring British woodlands and helping people connect with the trees that become the products they use every day.

Based in Herefordshire, Nuthatch Creations creates handcrafted furniture with a strong focus on provenance, craftsmanship and British timber.

It’s a fantastic example of how Chain of Custody certification helps businesses demonstrate the provenance of the timber they use, while strengthening the link between sustainably managed British woodlands and the products made from them.

We look forward to following Nuthatch Creations’ journey with Grown in Britain.
