💙 A little update from Brora Village Store CIC 💙
We thought it was time to share a little update on how things have been going at the shop and Post Office – and, most importantly, to say a huge thank you to everyone who continues to support us.
It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come. Since opening the shop in December 2024, we’ve certainly faced our share of challenges along the way, but we’ve continued to move forward, develop what we offer and build the shop into a service that we hope is valuable to our community.
One of our biggest achievements has been bringing a Post Office back to Brora, which has now been operating for over a year. Having these services available locally means people can access everyday postal services, banking, bill payments, energy top-ups and more without having to travel out of the village.
We now process hundreds of Post Office transactions every week, and it’s great to see the service being so well used. Every transaction helps demonstrate the need for a local Post Office and the importance of having these services available here in Brora.
Another really important milestone for us was securing funding from the Gordonbush Wind Farm Community Fund, which enabled us to take on an employee and give the shop and Post Office some much-needed additional support.
That brought Anita to the team – already a well-known face in Brora and now very much part of the shop! We are incredibly grateful for everything Anita does. The reality is that the Post Office simply wouldn’t be able to operate as it does without her. Having Anita there has allowed us to keep the counter running consistently and continue building the service as more and more people use it.
Alongside the Post Office, we’ve continued developing the shop itself. We now stock a growing range of everyday essentials, cards, stationery, gifts, craft supplies, yarn, DIY basics and lots more.
And we’re still growing.
We are still seeing new faces coming through the door – including people who live locally and simply hadn’t realised we were here or quite how much we offer!
As a Community Interest Company, the aim has always been to provide services that are useful to Brora and the surrounding area. Every time you buy something from the shop, use the Post Office, get something printed or simply tell somebody else that we’re here, you are helping us keep these services in the village.
There is still plenty we want to do. We’re continuing to look at ways of improving what we offer, increasing awareness of the shop and developing services that our community actually needs.
So, whether you visit us every week, pop in occasionally, use the Post Office or have only recently discovered us – thank you.
