Captured by the light….
I honestly think this is one of the best paintings I have bought in a long time.
After a fair bit of research, I think I now know the artist. It’s by Umberto (Humberto) Volpato, a late 19th/early 20th century Italian painter who emigrated to South America.
You can see the lovely blend of classic European impressionism mixed with atmospheric warmth.

Available to view at 54 The Mint, Rye.

A wonderful Edwardian drop-leaf dressing chest. Featuring an adjustable shield mirror above a bank of graduated drawers, with a generous shelved cupboard below. Both practical and handsome.
Sourced in Oxford, tucked away inside was an old letter written on headed Magdalen College paper. A love letter, no less, with a handwritten poem on the reverse ❤️ Little discoveries like this are part of what makes antique furniture so endlessly fascinating, every piece carries a story.
