A few more pictures from yesterday's opening of The Wool Clip: 25 Years in the Making, an exhibition running in the Loft Gallery at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh for the next couple of months. Thank you to Anna and to Clare and to everyone else involved at Farfield Mill - we've really appreciated your support.

Congratulations to our first seven 25th Anniversary Award winners: Karen Britton, Denise Bryan, Frances Irving, Claire Laybourne, Kate Neville, Sara Turton and Elaine Witts.

Six of them were able to make it to Farfield Mill for this evening's opening event (L to R Kate, Denise, Karen, Claire, Frances, Elaine) and Sara is hoping to get there over the next couple of days if she possibly can. This is a beautiful example of a sheepfold on the downlands—a truly timeless rural scene.

Sheepfolds were usually positioned close to good pasture, allowing the flock easy access to grazing. During lambing season, the shepherd would often keep his hut nearby so he could watch over the sheep day and night.

The photograph also provides a wonderful example of traditional wattle hurdles in use. These portable barriers were made locally by skilled hurdle makers, usually from hazel cut between autumn and early spring, when the sap was low or only beginning to rise.
