Hello! We are Rachel and Jamie and together we run The Dorothy Days. We believe in beautiful, practical and long lasting items which are unique, a joy to own and will be treasured for many years to come. This is central to

everything we do and bring you in the shop whether it is the hat which becomes a favourite wardrobe staple or the craft supply that you will turn into something beautiful and unique item to treasure. In a world of excess and waste, we strongly believe in buying better and buying less. We live by this philosophy ourselves and with what we bring you in our shop. We love what we do and are very much lead by our creativity and what sparks our interests and brings us joy to make. We have recently moved to our dream home in Cornwall, UK to raise our two children; Iris and Vivienne. We love that running our creative business allows us the freedom to be together as a family and hope to raise our children mindfully, in harmony with nature, and with an eagerness to explore our natural surroundings. June?! Actually can’t believe it is June today. May has been a whirlwind and one of the busiest months so far. We have done everything from organising a successful event to launching new yarns. Also found time to learn new skills (I can pickle now!) and enjoy some time in nature.

Things I do in the warmer months as a knitwear designer! ☀️

People always ask what I get up to at this time of year 🍃☀️ it’s true, we are approaching our quieter season in terms of sales but this is actually one of the busiest times of year for us behind the scenes as this is when we do all the prep work for Autumn/Winter.

And you would be surprised how many people are ordering knitwear this time of year too! Last year when we were all melting in the heatwave 🥵 I was packaging up knitwear!

And all of a sudden May is here…!

This time of year is a funny old time of year for us. The weather is warming up so it typically is one of our slower months for knitwear sales however we are noticing a real shift with people buying knitwear for wearing in the evenings, for staying down late at the beach 🌊, for hikes that start in the early morning 🥾 and those who do cold water swimming 🏊‍♀️ so actually have been quite busy!!

The coming few months is also when I can shift gears into designing, working on new products and building stock ready for Autumn which, as you can imagine, is a bit of a hectic time of year for us 😅🤯.

Did you all have a good bank holiday weekend?

We had a busy one with doing the Dorset Team Spring Fair this Saturday and then had a lovely chilled day yesterday with the children.

Really excited to have our new collection of yarn up. Which colour is your favourite?!

Notes from April

What a beautiful month it has been. We have spent lovely pockets of time between work and life outside in the garden, going on walks and enjoying watching everything spring to life. The bluebells are out and we seem to have more this year which is exciting. We have eaten so much wild garlic 😅🤭. The children were given plants by our neighbour and bought some seeds with their birthday money so they are super excited to be growing their own food and looking after the plants they have. The highlight of their morning is seeing if the seedlings have grown at all!

Can’t believe May is almost here. Looking forward to a beautiful month ahead.

It was less curated, more a window into your life and also super social. You chatted and connected rather than doom scrolling.

Can’t believe that the Easter Break is coming to a close. It has been wonderful, chaotic, relaxing and full on all at the same time!!

Craving some normal work hours and being back in the studio and not juggling everything but also have had a wonderful few weeks with the children and will miss days of playdoh, treasure hunts and the sand pit!!

Juggling both is hard and tricky to feel full present when you are being pulled both ways. Am neither just enjoying the children nor fully at work.

Mum guilt creeps in but I know that the children do get so much time and we have made some lovely memories this holiday ❤️🍃☀️.

Shout out to all those other parents who are also doing similar. It’s hard!!

Here is to a lovely last weekend before they are back to school and it looks like the sun might shine too ☀️🍃

Christmas feels ages away but with so many items to knit, I have to do the majority of the prep and knitting now in preparation. Nothing like knitting Christmas items when it is sunny ☀️🎅🏼😅!

So, I am going to be motivating myself by setting myself an Instagram challenge to knit as many pieces as I possibly can over the next month and will be sharing my progress with you all partly for fun, partly to make sure I do actually do it 😅🫣.

If you are a maker yourself, let me know if you are preparing for Christmas too!
