Inspiration rarely arrives where you expect it.

For this Airbnb project, the brief was to carve a walk-in wardrobe out of a small corner of the bedroom. Practical, yes. But we wanted it to feel like a moment too.

The idea came from a shopping bag. That iconic black and white Sephora stripe, the kind you carry out of the store feeling a little bit fabulous.

A striped wallpapered ceiling, deep green joinery, brushed brass cup handles and a velvet pouffe. Small footprint, big personality.

We find ideas everywhere. In hotel lobbies, on the high street, in fashion, in packaging, on our travels. The trick is noticing what makes you feel something, then working out how to bring that into a space.

Small spaces don’t have to be overlooked.

The smallest room in the house often gets the least thought, and it shows. In the understairs space of this Belgravia townhouse basement renovation, every centimetre had to earn its place.

We turned an awkward, sloped space into a guest cloakroom that feels deliberate rather than squeezed in. A few decisions did the heavy lifting.

Colour drenching. We painted the ceiling in the same colour as the walls. Wrapping the slope in a warm ochre stops it reading as a leftover corner and makes it feel cocooning.

Half-height tiling with a bullnose edge. The tiles protect the walls where they need it, and the bullnose gives a perfectly finished edge that adds a feeling of luxury.

A floor with character. Black and white hexagon mosaic adds pattern at a small scale and nods to the age of the house.

Compact fittings, chosen for proportion. A wall-hung basin keeps the floor clear, and the arched mirror softens all those angles.

Small spaces need more design, not less. When there’s nowhere to hide a poor decision, the planning has to be right from the start.

Project Ebury was a full townhouse renovation, and this little room is one of my favourite moments in it.

Project Focus | Station Road, Swavesey

Same house, very different brief.

The second bathroom in this full home renovation was designed as a modern sanctuary. The client wanted a contemporary take on the Japanese soaking tub, so we built in a sunken soaker bath, making the most of a compact footprint and a generous ceiling height.

Gunmetal brassware, all wall-hung for a clean, seamless finish, sits against large-format tiles with narrow grout lines, giving an almost micro-cement feel.

A coin-tile floor adds texture to an otherwise calm, neutral scheme, and a deep walnut wall-hung vanity brings warmth against the soft beige tones.

Proof that one home can hold two very different moods 🤍

Project Focus | Station Road, Swavesey

A bathroom designed for modern day family life with a traditional feel, in keeping with the rest of this Victorian home.

Sometimes the finer things in life are the simple things, and we think this bathroom hits that mark. Traditional never dates right? And done let anyone ever tell me that there’s anything wrong with black white and gold 🤍

The clocks go back Sunday 25th October.

Which means the school run, the drive home, and most of the evening will soon happen in the dark.

The usual problem isn’t a lack of light. It’s one ceiling light switched on at 5pm and left until bed. It flattens a room and makes even a beautiful space feel like a waiting room.

Good hotels never light a room this way. They layer it. Lamps, wall lights, concealed strips, pools of light. It’s why they feel welcoming the moment you walk in.

Your home can work the same way.

Read the full guide, with the lights we recommend for each layer, on the blog. Link in bio.

Save this for the first dark evening

Here’s the moodboard and inspiration behind a recent virtual design.

This client wanted to use an off the shelf corner dining unit as part of the scheme. It came in a few options of material colours. We choose this moss green to complement the already existing wood wall panelling.

We loved how it turned out, and this examples what can be achieved virtually using floor plans, measurements and images shared by the client.

Happy Sunday 🤍

Here’s the render, inspiration and moodboard from a recently completed virtual design.

This client wanted to use an off the shelf corner dining bench as part of the scheme.

The unit came in a few choices of fabric colours but we choose this moss green to compliment the existing dark wood wall panelling and units in this open plan kitchen space.

The design included some hard fixture choices including flooring, lighting as well as a decoration scheme.

A great example of what can be achieved virtually using floor plans, measurements, and images shared by the client virtually 🤍

Happy Sunday! x

Here are September’s best bits from Styled, and a little hint that change is coming soon.

On the drawing board: a whole-home furniture and finishes scheme, blending pieces my clients love with new additions to pull it all together.

What I’ve been loving: that low autumn sun reaching further into our homes, bringing warmth, depth and beautiful reflections

A weekend in Yorkshire: walking and recharging. The best ideas come when you give yourself space to reset

Behind the scenes: something new has been taking shape. A new chapter for Styled is coming this October…

If Styled did weddings...

Of course I designed my own wedding. Every tiny detail considered, obviously.

Happy second anniversary to the best brief I’ve ever worked on. 🤍
