Hi, I own a herd of 26 alpacas that graze on fields crossed with a public right of way. The only gelded male I have is kept with the females as he is a fabulous foster dad to any orphaned or rejected babies. His name is Iago and one day I found him extremely lame. I called the vet; x-rays show he has broken a ligament in his back leg. My vet is of the opinion that this was caused by running and kicking out at the same time. I was completely perplexed as to why he would behave like this as the herd are peaceful together.

Last week I saw someone allowing their dog to run loose around the fields. Yes there is a public right of way over the land but, by law, dogs should be kept on a lead and owners should stick to the path. I can only surmise that Iago’s injury was caused by being chased by a dog. Whilst the law relating to dog control on public footpaths is a separate issue, my options with Iago are either to operate (costing thousands of £s) or have him put down.

I am loath to kill a healthy animal that has an injury through no fault of his own or mine for that matter! He is a gentle soul, well worth saving and I am asking for help with the vet bills. I’ll pay the bulk, but this amount is for the months of after care and vet visits. If you can find it in your heart to help him, I (and he) would be extremely grateful.

Well it's a very grey wet day today, the perfect day to snuggle up with knitting the stylish Lima Jumper for men. It has an easy and wearable shape which is accentuated by the zigzag detail on the hem and cuffs. The jumper is knitted in Purl Alpaca Fine yarn on 5mm needles, which creates a lightweight and fine fabric.

The body and sleeves of Lima is knitted in the round, making it a nearly seamless jumper. Great for an intermediate knitter ready to embrace colour work.

Sunday evenings are made for settling down with a knitting project and planning out the knitting time for the week! Especially when it's bank holiday tomorrow!

Olivia is such a cute coat for a little girl to wear; with buttons at the centre front to make it more practical but we have kept the lace details, both at the back and front of the cardigan. The body is knitted in one piece so there is little finishing at the end. A very practical warmer for those cooler evenings!
