Cegin is 4 years old this month!

And by way of celebrating, we met outside of the canteen at Bremenda Farm with our friends from Bwyd Sir Gar.

We were greeted by Piers Lunt who showed us around the farm where so many of the vegetables that we cook up at Cegin are grown.

He explained to us the vision they have for a food resilient future that was truly inspiring and gave us all hope.

Afterwards, we sat down for a brilliant "bring and share" lunch and sang a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday to Cegin.

We're back in the canteen tomorrow and Wednesday, so come along and see us!

We were absolutely delighted to welcome a wonderful group of students all the way from the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Machynlleth.

As part of their journey down to Carmarthen, they stopped by our spaces at the Allotment and Canteen to share a meal, exchange ideas, and experience firsthand how we use food to build local resilience and connection.

We're open Tuesday & Wednesday, 10-2 🥦🍊 please see pics for menu 🌿

🍽️ On the Menu This Week

Our kitchen team is celebrating this harvest by making squash the absolute star of the show. Pull up a chair this week to try our Roasted Allotment Crown Prince Squash & Coconut Dhal on Tuesday and Butternut Squash Stew on Wednesday served up hot with a side of community warmth. And check out our pudding…Cegins famous Apple Cake!

Because we run on a pay-what-you-can basis, everyone in our community gets to celebrate this harvest together. Whether you are paying it forward to support our project or need a nourishing meal on us, there is a bowl of our home-grown squash waiting for you

Hope to see you this Tuesday and Wednesday.
And don't forget it's Allotment Volunteering day tomorrow 🌿

Ever wondered where the fresh ingredients in your bowls at Cegin Hedyn come from? 🌱

When you eat with us on Lammas Street, you’re stepping into a beautiful, local food loop right here in Carmarthenshire. ✨

Here is how the magic happens:

🧑‍🌾 The Growers: Hard-working local legends like our own allotment volanteers, Bremenda Farm, Gwynfe Growers, Tir Awel, Peniel Sunrise Market Garden, and Glasbren grow incredible, nutrient-dense food while healing the soil.

🍲 The Kitchen: We buy directly from them to keep money in the local economy, and we rescue farm gluts (like this week’s surplus runner beans!) and turn them into vibrant, plant-based meals.

🤝 The Table: Because we use a pay-what-you-can model, we shatter the financial barrier to organic, high-quality food. Every single person who sits down with us eats the exact same meal grown in local soil—regardless of what’s in their wallet.

Food justice starts from the ground up, and you make it happen every time you pull up a chair. 💚

✨ How to support the loop this week:
1️⃣ Come down and enjoy a seasonal bowl with us.
2️⃣ Pay it forward if you can to help us keep buying from local farmers at a fair price.
3️⃣ Drop us a message to volunteer in the kitchen or at our Community Allotment!

See you at the table! 👋

Well that was a pretty special Saturday! 🌱🔥 We took Cegin Hedyn out to Glasbren at Lords Park Farm for their Harvest Celebration and somehow managed to feed around 100 people, all cooked outside over fire using wood harvested from the land. There was something really lovely about cooking some of the vegetables too, because I’d actually helped plant some of them at Glasbren months ago. So I planted them, someone else did all the hard work of actually keeping them alive 😂, they were harvested, handed back to me, and then we cooked them over the fire and fed them to everyone. That felt pretty special and kind of summed up why I love doing this stuff.

Massive thank you to everyone who came and ate, everyone at Glasbren for having us, and especially everyone who volunteered and helped us actually pull it off. It was also really lovely seeing lots of familiar Cegin faces there. ❤️ Our next big event is the Welsh Real Food and Farming Conference in November, so more on that soon. Wales Real Food and Farming Conference

And a little bit of news from me too… this is actually going to be one of the last Facebook posts I personally write for Cegin Hedyn. I’ve been writing the newsletters, doing the social media and generally telling the Cegin story for the last few years, and as part of me gradually handing things over, it feels like the right time to hand this bit over too. We’ll hopefully be introducing you to Cegin’s new storyteller very soon. It feels a bit strange, but thank you for reading all my ramblings 😂, commenting, sharing and most importantly actually turning up and being part of it all. I’m not disappearing, but it’s time for someone else to start telling the Cegin Hedyn story. Thanks for being on this wonderful, slightly bonkers journey with me. Deri Reed ### 🌱

🌾🔥 CEGIN HEDYN IS HEADING TO THE FARM THIS SATURDAY! 🔥🌾

This Saturday 5th September, we’re swapping the Cegin Hedyn kitchen for open fires and farm fields as we head to Glasbren at Lords Park Farm, Llansteffan, for their annual Harvest Celebration!

And we’ve got a job to do…

🔥 At 5pm, Deri and the Cegin Hedyn crew will be cooking Food from the Flames for everyone!

The whole day starts from 12pm, with farm tours, fermentation and seed-saving workshops, children’s activities, a Harvest Ceremony and plenty more.

Then we’ll light the fires, feed everyone and hand things over to a Twmpath from 7pm, followed by music and dancing into the evening. 💃🌱

After such a challenging, dry growing season, it feels particularly important to come together and celebrate the people, land and hard work behind the food we eat.

And we’d LOVE to see some familiar Cegin Hedyn faces there. ❤️

📅 Saturday 5th September
📍 Glasbren, Lords Park Farm, Llansteffan
