Dear EU peeps!
Obviously there is lots of worry about the GPSR regulations. Please don’t worry, since we send to Europe from Europe through our Dutch company there are no issues at all. We have an in house representative and so it’s all business as normal. Just wanted to reassure you as we have had a few worried emails.

Hi Peeps! Just to remind you, we have our yearly stock take in the UK and the EU warehouse this Friday, that means we won’t be processing orders from 12pm on Thursday 29th (this week) until Monday morning next week so make sure you get your orders in accordingly. Thanks πŸ€— Jx

A wonderful project, So interesting!

Apart from discovering new things another favourite part of a research journey is when you reach out to a British company and instantly feel a deep connection and appreciation of the natural world.

Imagine my surprise yesterday when I returned home to receive a bundle of beautiful Blue Faced Leicester wool all just begging to be dyed in food wasteβ€¦πŸ˜‰

Thank you I will keep you all updated with my progress with putting together an accessible recipe database.

C l o u d 800.
This yarn is a dreamy fluffy lace, a superb alternative to mohair, especially for customers who can't tolerate mohair next to their skin. It makes super-light fabrics. It takes the dye well and speckles softly.

I used a 5mm needle and the gauge was 16 sts & 26 rows for 10cms.
I also stranded it with Tibetan 4ply on US5 and got 16sts & 28 rows.
WPI: 20. Suitable for a weft.
65% Baby Suri Alpaca, 35% silk. 400m per 50g skein.

C e l e s t i a l S p o r t. Type 49146.

Let's start with why we should knit and dye more sport-weight yarns.
I know we are a bit Sport shy over here in the UK and Europe, but we should embrace it more. It's so good for light garments without having to use teeny weeny needles for a nice light fabric, which if you are anything like me who likes to strike a balance of lightness for 'the sweats' vs thickness of yarn and speed... Sport is a great compromise!

Anyway I digress, this yarn is absolutely GORGEOUS.

The composition is 65% Super Baby Alpaca & 35% Extra fine (17.5 micron) merino, so it is SOFT.
300m per 100g

The twist on this yarn worked so well to keep my swatch from stretching too much. The swatch has an exquisite handle, it's almost cashmere-like and velvety, it also knits up with a lovely crisp stitch definition. I am not the world's neatest knitter, but this just knits perfectly.

For the swatch, I used 3mm needles and the gauge came out as 26sts and 46 rows over 10cm. I think 3.25 & 3.5mm would also work for this yarn, although I adore the fabric at 3mm.

WPI is 20/21 and this would work as a warp or weft, it's a strong yarn.

I couldn't stop knitting swatches with this yarn πŸ˜… it's SO gorgeous. Just an FYI I'm using the same dye on all the yarns in these tests so it shows the different effects the bases have on the dyes. The subtlety of the speckles on this yarn is just something else. I am literally obsessed.

On its own, it gives a lovely light warm fabric, you could vary the needle size considerably on this yarn and create a much lighter fabric again. I used 3mm for the main swatch and got 25sts and 46 rows for 10cm.

I stranded it on two different needle sizes with the Tibetan 4ply and this gave two beautiful fabrics, again varying the needle size created different fabric textures.

WPI is 20, I think it would make a great weft, it is quite strong, but I'm not sure how well it would wear as a warp, if anyone tried it please let me know.

This would be superb for sweaters, soft enough for cowls and scarves, and stranded with other yarns to make some really quite spectacular fabrics.

ETA Two strands knitted together on 4.5mm results 18st x 26 rows, for 10cm square (Thanks Eirwen!)
