Not every repair in the workshop is about replacing something completely - in fact we always try to keep visible repairs to a minimum.
Sometimes it’s about carefully saving as much of the original piece as possible — and making the repair disappear into the history of the furniture.
This dresser base had damage to part of the foot, so rather than replacing the whole base, we carefully cut back only what was needed and made a new section to match. Once we stain and wax the replacement part it should blend in nicely. This one was a bit tricky with wavy grain but we are pleased with the result.
The important part isn’t just the shape — it’s matching the grain, direction, proportions and age of the timber so the repair blends naturally once finished.
We always try to repair sympathetically using old wood from our workshop stock where possible, keeping the character of the original piece intact rather than over-restoring it.
