Hi, I’m Dymphna — the face behind Dymphna Jane , my tiny little wool shop and haberdashery in Higher Wheelton, Lancashire.

And when I say tiny… I really do mean tiny. This definitely isn’t one of those huge warehouse-style craft stores where you need a map and hiking boots to get round it. It’s small, cosy, friendly, and absolutely packed to the rafters with crafty goodness.

Despite the size, I somehow seem to have squeezed in just about everything you could possibly need — yarn, crochet hooks, knitting needles, sewing threads, buttons, scissors, patterns, haberdashery bits, crafty tools, and all those little things you only realise you need halfway through a project at 10pm.

I was raised in Shetland and learnt to knit almost as soon as I could walk, so crafting has always been part of everyday life for me. I love helping people find the right yarn, match colours properly, solve project problems, or just have a good chat about what they’re making.

The shop is very much the sort of place where people pop in “just for one thing” and stay for a natter. There’s usually crochet on the counter, wool being unpacked somewhere, and a lot of enabling going on.

Alongside the shop, I also run Craft Shedquarters with Lisa of Lambtastic Lamb , where we host knitting and crochet workshops, crafty socials, and beginner sessions. We’re huge believers that crafting should feel welcoming, relaxed and fun — whether you’ve been crafting for years or you’re picking up a crochet hook or knitting needles for the very first time.

So if you fancy a browse, a squish of some beautiful yarn, or just a friendly little independent craft shop that feels a bit like stepping into someone’s crafty front room, come and say hello.

Something a little bit special is coming to Craft Shedquarters this July…

We’ve been working behind the scenes with the absolutely gorgeous Wool and the Gang Ra-Ra Raffia, and we honestly can’t wait to show you more. If you’ve never crocheted with raffia before, don’t worry — we’ll guide you through all the tips and techniques you need step-by-step, so you can confidently create something beautifully stylish for summer.

As always, this isn’t just about a project box. It’s about learning something new, having that lovely “I actually made this!” feeling, and being part of our wonderfully supportive crafty community along the way.

If you’re already subscribed, you’re on the list and your box is reserved. We only have a small number of extra boxes available, so if you’d like to join us for the July box, now’s the time to sign up.

Our subscription boxes also make such a lovely gift — a creative treat arriving every quarter, packed with beautiful yarns, quality tools, full tutorials and plenty of support from Lisa and me.

More sneak peeks coming soon…

A lovely lady popped into the shop today looking to find a new home for her knitting machine, so I said I’d help spread the word.

It’s a Brother KH380 knitting machine complete with the ribber, all the original accessories and instructions, and best of all it’s fully set up and working so you can actually see it all set up.

She’s based in Brinscall, Lancashire.

If you’re interested, send me a message and I can pass on her contact details directly

“Members of staff to discard their clothing in hot weather to the point of unsightliness…”

British Museum, Midsummer 1939.

Apparently even in 1939 management were sending strongly worded memos about staff surviving a heatwave.

Rumour has it Doris from Archives removed her cardigan and rolled her sleeves above the elbow…
while Alfred from Antiquities caused absolute scenes by loosening his tie after luncheon. Scandalous behaviour.

Meanwhile in 2026, we’re all just trying not to felt ourselves while crocheting with sweaty hands.

So tell me…

What are you wearing to keep cool?
What’s your favourite summer knit or crochet make?
Best yarn for hot weather?
And at what temperature do we all officially give up and sit in front of a fan with an ice lolly?

Photos of handmade summer garments highly encouraged…
especially if Alfred’s tie has made an appearance.
