NO ONE PLANS FOR WELLIES 🥾

But in a Cotswolds family home, that’s EXACTLY what needs planning for.

Rural family life generates a specific kind of chaos, muddy wellies, dog leads, school bags, sports kit, coats for four seasons, bikes 🚲

Without a properly planned entry and utility zone, none of it disappears. It migrates into the kitchen and hallway, permanently 😔

👉The fix isn’t tidying harder, it’s considered space planning and zoning.

📝I start by understanding, in detail, how your family lives, the rhythms of your day, the activities you do, and how you want each space to feel.

Only then do we design and position the right seating, storage, and drop-zones — creating a home that feels calm, considered, and genuinely yours.

A well-planned home starts at the front door. DM “SPACE” to begin the conversation

Can we Talk about Lighting? (Or the Lack of It)

Recent site visits have brought home to me that poor lighting is a REALLY common problem in both old and new homes, just for very different reasons.

We have new-builds with one sad, lonely central light or soulless grids of downlights, contrasting with lighting in super-weird inherited positions in old houses, that may have made sense in the past but really don’t work for the way we live today.

This is fixable! A great, layered lighting scheme is integral to all great interior designs and be both practical and atmospheric. It should be felt before it is noticed 😊

Recently, I solved for this in the central stairwell at the heart of a Georgian home: Pendants at varying heights for a bit of drama in the core, wall lights for atmosphere - and so as not to fall down the stairs, a table lamp in the hall and a floor lamp in a reading nook on the landing, and subtle track lighting on the ceiling for the art. All on the right circuits, the right kelvin, the right CRI, beam angle, the unglamorous bits nobody photographs but noticeable when they are wrong.

I think they like it ;)

How’s the lighting in your home: Good/Bad/Ugly?!

I offer lighting design as part of my Full Interior Design service, DM “Design” to start a conversation.

“We worked with Tania to design the central core of our home. It is a large, double height circulation space in a Georgian house which felt cold and a place to pass through quickly. She re-designed the lighting & interior design scheme, which is now amazing. The lighting is much less flat, adding real interest to the space and she has nailed & elevated our style perfectly. She is calm and was great fun to work with. Will use again!” - L Brook - Cirencester

Solving Dark Rooms with Crittall-style Doors

On a current project in Cirencester, we’re opening up a ground floor space to let light flow from the south-facing kitchen into a dark, north-facing sitting room, using pocket Crittall-style doors.

With their slim steel frames and large expanses of glass, they will flood the sitting room with natural light ☀️

I love the character they layer into to a modern space, and the old/new tension they create in a period property but there are a lot of decisions to be made.
👉Steel vs aluminium
👉Lintel sizes
👉Sightlines
👉Glazing configurations
👉Colour
👉Handle style.

It’s the attention to all the little details that will make the result look and feel perfect😊

Because a room is made up of a lot of very small decisions which most people won’t have considered when going it alone.

Swipe for the details I considered ➡️

BAR DESIGN GOALS 🍸

Ok so we have LITERALLY only just had our first few drops of rain, but I am already dreaming of designing someone a cosy, speakeasy style bar at home, just in time for Christmas🎄

I think there is real shift towards creating dedicated spaces at home for how we really want to live and entertain. A home bar, whether a nook or its dedicated room needs thought and planning for joinery, seating, electrics, lighting and storage, as well as the overall vibe 😊

I saw this cosy nook at WOW-house. It works because of the glamour, richness and sense of movement found in the hard and soft material palette.  From the glossy burgundy floor tiles to the marble countertop, the sumptuous olive velvets and luxury fringing to the embroidered sisal wall coverings. It is all to die for.

👉If you would like me to design your own speakeasy 🍸 in time for Christmas, drop me a DM.

FALLING FOR A PERIOD HOME IS EASY. LIVING IN ONE IS THE HARD PART.

Chimney breasts. Awkward additions. A staircase in exactly the wrong place.

The things that give your home its soul are often the same things making it difficult to live in.

Imagine this instead — rooms that connect the way you actually move through them, space that works as hard as you do, a home that feels effortless instead of like a puzzle you’re always half-solving.

That’s what thoughtful spatial planning does: it honours your home’s character and finally makes it liveable.

A style board for a kitchen I’ve been developing as part of a Full-Design service for a client.

The scheme centres around a slim shaker style kitchen in a pale, slightly earthy pink finish (Farrow & Ball - Pink Ground), paired with a fresh green island (Sanderson - Botanical) and Caesarstone UK & IRE worktops. Warm, patinated metal finishes, (Corston Architectural Detail ) a wooden floor and deep pink accents add depth and contrast (Bert & May | Tiles | Reclaimed | Bespoke

The layout is already established so now I will be thinking about the lighting design. Making sure that we have a layered scheme, that is super practical for cooking and the occasional wfh; but also cosy and atmospheric for entertaining. I am so looking forward to seeing this scheme come to life.

This is all part of my Full-Design service, one of my three design services, where I design a space around how you really want to live, combining my creativity with practical solutions to create your dream space.

Collating samples for a project in Cirencester. I lean towards fabrics that are patterned and colourful but not in a jazz-hands way. The secret to combining colours and patterns is all in the number and ratio of the colours, then you can have a many colours as you like 🎨

Am loving these beautiful designs from boutique studios such as Studio Supple Indigo & Wills Rapture & Wright and S T U D I O H U M B U G 😍
