1838 Wallcoverings is a luxury brand, manufacturing all wallpapers at our factory in Lancashire. A family owned business, 1838 is led by brother and sister team James and Abigail Watson, whose family has over 4 generations of wallpaper printing experience. At the core of 1838 is the celebration of design and craftsmanship. Many wallpapers in the collections have been printed on machines that are o

ver 100 years old. Surface printing creates a beautiful hand painted effect and there are only a handful of the machines left in the world. The technique was pioneered in 1838 in Lancashire, just a few miles away from the current factory. Sustainability and environmental responsibility are at the heart of 1838 production. Only water-based, non-toxic inks are used, which are environmentally safe and free from VOCs. Designs are printed on responsibly sourced (FSC certified), recyclable non woven bases, that are paste the wall and easy to hang.
