ANOTHER PROJECT ✔️

working with is a match made in heaven.

My passion Changing workspaces to change lives grown businesses and orbits is to provide spaces that do just that!

💫Arrival matters. 💫

It’s the brand, the welcome, the wayfinding and that first feeling when someone steps through the door.

But it doesn’t just sit with the interiors. It runs much deeper, through the layout, the functionality of the building, the customer journey, and right down to the smiley face greeting you at reception.

When we first designed this space, the area where reception now sits was planned as a laundry room. We very quickly realised that would take away from the client experience, the welcome moment and the opportunity for merchandising.

That’s how projects develop and grow.

And it’s safe to say, we smashed it.

I love the welcome. I love the feel. And there are still more details being added to elevate the experience even further.

Spray tan room with a difference! 🤎✨

Colour pop, eat your heart out.

At RoseandcaramelHQ, this space was designed around the full customer journey.

You enter through one door for your spray tan, move into the drying room, then leave back out through reception.

And this room is all about the joinery.

While the rest of the building sits in soft taupes, blacks and whites, we had a bit of fun in here. The design needed to be darker and more practical because of the spray tan itself, but still feel branded, bold and exciting.

Even better it's your very own tanning bar, designed to make the experience smooth, functional and memorable.

The time has finally come... INSTALL WEEK! 🎉

Months of drawings, meetings, problem-solving and site visits are finally becoming reality.

What started as: 💭 "Could we use that void?" 💭 "Can we fit another function in?" 💭 "Could this awkward corner actually work?"

Has become a warehouse, office, academy, beauty space, hair studio, merchandising area and content studio all under one roof.

This is why I love design.

Not the pretty furniture.

The climbing into dusty voids. The dirt on your knees. The expanding foam in your hair. The seeing potential where nobody else can.

Now let's bring this space to life. 🚀

The time has finally come... install week! 🎉

Boxes and boxes of products are arriving, ready to be transformed into a space that, until now, has only existed in drawings, meetings and imagination.

As with any project, there have been highs and lows along the way, but to say I'm excited to see this one open is an understatement. The client and project managers have been an absolute dream to work with, and that's what makes projects like this so special.

Walking around site this week reminded me exactly why I do what I do. That buzz you get when a brief starts becoming reality. When months of decisions, problem-solving, revisions and hard work finally begin to take shape.

Combining a warehouse, office, beauty space, hair studio, merchandising area, academy and content studio within a relatively small footprint has been no small feat. What makes it even more rewarding is seeing those early conversations come to life.

You know the ones...

"I wonder if we could use that void up there?"
That void is now a boardroom, breakout space and content studio.

"Could this awkward corner become something useful?"

"Is there a way to squeeze one more function into the space?"

The clever use of space has unlocked opportunities we weren't even sure were possible at the start of the project.

And that's why I do what I do.
Not to admire pretty furniture.

But to climb into dusty voids, crawl into forgotten corners and see opportunities where nobody else thought there were any.

The spaces where you leave with dirt on your knees, expanding foam in your hair and a hundred new ideas after a site survey.

The spaces that nobody thought could be transformed.

And then watching them become something beautiful, functional and full of life.

These are the moments that give you goosebumps.

🖤 The moment a brief becomes a reality.
🖤 The moment a vision becomes a space.
🖤 The moment a dream is realised.

And hopefully, very soon, the moment a well-earned glass of wine is enjoyed. 🍷 Rose & Caramel

// I had a Meltdown over a school summer dress today //

This morning, I got pulled aside at school.

My daughter’s dress isn’t “uniform compliant.” '' its too extra'' .
Even though the guidance literally says 'any green checked dress' and that's exactly what it is.

I’d found her a beautiful one, green check, with a frilly collar and little bows. She’s been wearing it proudly all week.

And just like that…

I was thrown into a spin.

Layer that with site messages over the weekend.

-No real switch-off.
-Forms. Deadlines. Noise.
-House like it would be fit for a zoo
-Washing that has no end
-Birthday party planning
-Life admin
-That annoying cough that every time you swallow you could be a sponsor for Gillet razors.

And suddenly it’s Monday and everything feels LOUD and one little thing tips your over the edge...we have all been there!

This is how most people start their week.

-Something unexpected hits you big or small
-Your brain hasn’t had chance to reset.
-You’re already carrying mental load before you even sit down.

And then we expect people to perform.

But here’s the difference to some of my previous workplaces. I would have walked into a claustrophobic, manic, forced enviroment.

I went straight to my office......Closed the door.... didn't open my emails...took a breath..

-Created calm, lit a candle, covered my self in a blanket
-Headphones in....Noise out.
-Focus on what actually matters. What my to do list was today....Not the endless list... not buying a new dress.
-Not the unnecessary commentary.
- Not the chaos.

And this is what we get wrong about workplaces.

We think productivity is about people.

It’s not.
It’s about the environment we put them in.

Because your environment will either:

→ Push your nervous system into overdrive
→ Or regulate it so you can think clearly, respond calmly, and actually perform

If your space is loud, reactive, and constant…your people will be too.
If your space is calm, considered, and supportive…your people can be their best.

Design isn’t just how something looks.

It’s how it holds you when everything else feels too much.

Results: from simply having control over my space.. i'm on target with what I had to do, regulated nervous system and ready get to it for the rest of the day.

Before this I was angry, I was ready for telling the school what for, p**** off frustrated, popping off at whoever would listen and not focused on what I needed to do. I'm grateful I have a space to support me because today could have gone in the wrong direction!

Let’s create spaces where people thrive, not survive!

😞I STRUGGLED IN EMPLOYMENT FOR YEARS. 😶

-Not because I wasn’t good enough.
-Not because I didn’t work hard.
-Not because I couldn’t get on with people.

But because it felt like I was speaking English…And everyone else was hearing French.

For years, I designed mental health environments.

🖤 Spaces built to keep people safe.
🖤 Support recovery.
🖤 Help staff actually do their jobs.
🖤 Design had a job to do.

🌟Behaviour mattered.
🌟Environment mattered.

Then I moved into workplace design, after that moved to a job where I didn't even have a desk……and everything clicked.

*It wasn’t me.
*It wasn’t them.
*It was the space.

We put people together and expect them to perform…even though they think differently, process differently, and experience the world differently.

Then we label it as a “people problem”.

It’s not.

It’s a design problem.

“Neighbourhoods” get banded about a lot in workplace design.

❗But most of the time, they’re done wrong❗

It’s not just about putting teams together.

It’s about giving people control.

Within a neighbourhood, you should be able to

// Move | shift | reset //

👌🏻Find the environment that actually works for you.

Based on:

🌟your task
🌟Your energy.
🌟Your mood.
🌟Your tolerance for other humans that day.

Because some days you collaborate.
And some days… you just need space.

Forcing everyone to sit in the same spot, next to the same people, trying to “translate” each other all day?

That’s not productivity.

That’s friction.

And friction, costs businesses.

Great workplaces remove that.

They don’t force people to fit the space.

They design spaces that flex around people.

So you’re not stuck…

//Everyone is talking about sensory design right now. //

I’m going to say something that might not be popular and i'm going to call the 'industry leaders' out on it and i'm perfectly placed after designing for mental health for over 15 years in actual mental health units. (the serial killer type)

LETS GO 💥

-Candles.
- Scents.
-Whale music.
-“This colour is calming.”

That’s not sensory design.

That’s sensory styling!

Because here’s the reality no one talks about

Humans are not predictable.

//A smell can calm one person and trigger another instantly
// A sound can soothe someone and put someone else on edge
//A colour can feel grounding or take someone straight back to a moment they’d rather forget

You cannot design wellbeing by assuming everyone feels the same.
And more importantly

None of those things create safety in the brain

If the space itself doesn’t feel safe....No candle in the world is fixing that

Real sensory design is not about adding things in.....It’s about what the space allows you to do:

💥 Can I choose where I sit
💥 Can I control my environment
💥 Can I reduce noise
💥 Can I step away
💥 Can I see what’s coming
💥 Do I understand the space without thinking....

That’s what regulates the nervous system.
That’s what supports focus, behaviour and performance.

Wellbeing doesn’t start with finishes
It starts with layout and functionality

The best spaces don’t tell people how to feel

They give people the ability to find what they need

That’s the difference between a space that looks good
And a space that actually works

So if your interior designer / architect mentions anything about colour, smells and music before functionality, layout and MOST importantly the end user and that means actually talking to the end user... Drop them immediately they know nothing about design for wellbeing.

Lets actually start design for humans to thrive not survive!

If you have ever walked into a building and felt a bit lost, you will know exactly why planning wayfinding from the very start is so important. When it is done well it helps everyone move around with ease, it reduces stress and anxiety, and it turns the whole experience of the space into something far more welcoming.

Good wayfinding is not just signs. It can be colours, characters, simple graphics, even numbers and gentle cues built straight into the design. When these elements work together the space feels calmer, clearer and much more supportive for every type of visitor.

I talk through all of this in the video and share a few simple ideas you can use when you are planning your own building layouts. Watch it for more ways to make your spaces friendlier and easier to understand.
