Beautiful atmospheric skies in the local scenes by Kevan Lee, our current Artist of the Month. Living in Whitehaven and taking inspiration from the maritime and industrial heritage of the region, he has painted many interesting industrial local scenes as well as the more conventional lakes and fells of the region.

He favours watercolour but also experiments in acrylic, pastel and mixed media.

The window display features scenes from Cockermouth (including Jennings Brewery) and Whitehaven, with more paintings and cards inside.

Kim Tillyer's beginner's guide to Cyanotype is full of inspiring ideas with easy to follow instructions. We are also selling Cyanotype kits and ready mixed solution.

Cyanotype involves painting a surface (paper, fabric, stone etc.) with a solution of salts, which then turn blue (a beautiful Prussian blue) on exposure to sunlight. Areas can be masked to remain white by placing objects (ferns work particularly well in Kim's work) onto the surface before it is exposed to the light.
