HELLO 👋🏼

I’ve had some lovely new followers over the last few months, and I’m really terrible with my socials recently so I thought it was about time I said hey!

I’m Chloe, founder of Iris Antiques - which is named after two of my loves, my eldest Iris and…. antiques obviously 🫠

🖤 I’m obsessed with antique rings, particularly engagement rings and I am the most indiscreet magpie of all time.

✨ My all time favourite stones are emeralds and rubies.

💎 I love art deco rings but you also cannot beat a chunky, clunky 70’s/80’s gypsy style diamond on a gold band.

📸 I really dislike having my picture taken.

🏔️ My Etsy store is constantly updated with new stock and I offer worldwide shipping free of charge.

💡 I am absolutely awful with my social media (I blame having two young kids) but my DM’s are always open, so if you see something you like, give me a shout.

Every so often there’s a ring that knocks me out.
This stunning Victorian Ruby and white topaz 18ct gold is THE ring.
Hugely opulent and glamorous, this beauty is in incredible condition considering it’s over 120 years old 🤯
The buttery golden of the metal against the vivid ruby and sparking topaz is enough to end my life. I love it. And I’m not being dramatic, promise.

Is anyone else willing half term to come to an end so they can get on with the mountains of work/life admin/chores that have accumulated?
I’ve got some beautiful rings to list including some of the most stunning sapphires I think I’ve ever found 💎 Really hoping to get them researched, shot and listed in the next few weeks.

Without a doubt the most iconic ring in history.
We first got a glimpse of this ring in 1981 at Charles and Diana’s engagement.

After the sad death of Princess Diana (my all time Queen ✨) it was given a new lease of life on the finger of Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Let’s face it, this ring is bloody massive and magnificent! It features a 12 carat oval Ceylon sapphire set in 18 carat white gold, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.
The blue of that sapphire is 🌊💦💧

Many royals often repurpose heirloom gems to create a one of a kind ring, not Charlie boy, he chose this from jeweller Garrad’s catalogue. The ring was from a stock collection which meant members of the public could have also purchased the piece!

When Charles proposed to Diana it was valued at £47,000 it’s now likely worth over £500,000 🤯

I’m not a fan of rings costing the Earth, especially when that money could go towards something worthwhile (let’s not get into politics here)
But, this why I love working with people looking for preloved rings - they are good for the environment, sustainable and don’t cost an actual fortune.

Don’t do a Charles people, buy antique and preloved!

Wow that week went fast!

This week we’re going to look at a really unusual engagement ring, one of the most unusual in history I think.

Queen Victorias 18ct gold snake ring, given to her in 1839….. yeh you heard me 🐍

Queen Victoria was alive during one of the most progressive eras in the country’s history. Many people in the western world were influenced by her lifestyle and fashion choices and we have the Victorian era to thank for so many incredible styles and trends.

The Victorians were a quirky bunch (my favourite kind of people) and snake jewellery became more and more popular from this moment.

There was a surge in showing love and romance through jewellery, and symbols such as hearts, doves, roses and swallows came into fashion.

The ring itself is stunning, the emerald was embedded in the centre of the serpents head, the rubies formed the eyes and the diamonds made up the mouth of the snake. The coil of the snake symbolises everlasting love.

It’s not clear where the ring is now, but it’s thought Victoria was buried with it, rather than it being passed down as an heirloom - these pictures are said to be replicas.
I don’t blame her, if I had a ring that distinctive, I would want anyone to get hold of it either!
