SewingNi A sewing and creative workshop where you can learn to pattern and make your own sewn items. Private events.

Our regular sewing classes include short weekend half day sewing classes and sewing courses with weekly sewing classes at 3 different skill levels.

Start dates in October - browse the photos from our previous courses.

We are in Coleraine town centre, 10 mins walk from the bus/train station and just 4 miles from the beautiful Causeway Coast - book a short break and learn some new skills!

The sustainable way to make garments that fit you every time.

🙄🤦 FORGET adjusting EVERY pattern you buy!🤦 🙄

We do things differently (and kinda always have...) ✂️

You will learn how to:
Adjust darts
Add fullness / Remove fullness
Create panel seams
Cut sleeves
Cut collars
Create openings.
You will mock up (toile) techniques and see them on your body stand.

THEN...you will make up your own personal calico body toile and we will fit and adjust your base body Block Pattern together.

FINALLY...you will be able to design and cut your own first pattern using your own personal block and using the techniques learned.

IN THIS WAY....you will KNOW that every pattern you create will fit you and your body perfectly, EVERY time. This will be your starting pattern for every top, jacket dress pattern in your future.

Diane is a professional Creative Pattern Cutterl working in the Fashion and Costume for 30+ years who has set up SewingNi to pass on her knowledge and skills to promote individuality and sustainability in design. Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and more started their careers as Pattern Cutters. If you are interested in design you must first understand how to sew, then cut...

Participants should have the equivalent of our Level 2/intermediate sewing ability.

Fancy trying sewing before booking a full course?
Our Bag-making and Cushion workshops are perfect!

Just finished the Beginners course?...Why not make a thread bin with pin cushion to keep your sewing area tidy, or book any of the other workshops. Great for testing your new skills!

Do you have any overlocker you really need to make friends with? Melvins overlocker workshop will take you through all the tips and settings.

Scratching your head about a project or do you just want some social sewing time, perhaps with friends? Our Sew, Create, Relax workshops are Bring Your Own days. You book a place, then bring your own work.

Behinners Sewing Course next Friday-Saturday 14th-15th August
10am-4pm each day

🧵 Message to book £120 🧵

This course will cover:
Workshop Safety
Setting up the machine
Troubleshooting machine tension
Sewing
Sewing seams
Hems
Topstitching
Using scissors, pins, chalk
Sewing around shaped pieces (make a cloth wallet)
How to press not iron
Have a go at overlocking
Introduction to patterns and pattern markings
Laying Up and cutting out

Make your own final piece...choice of Pyjama Shorts /trousers in your usual size (Adult Male, Female and children's patterns available), Apron, Cushion, Tote Bag.

All materials and equipment are supplied. You may find it useful to bring a notebook and pen to jot down ideas and make notes.

Morning and afternoon refreshments are provided. Lunch is not provided. As we are in the town centre, most people go to one of our many local cafes - just like the Sewing Bee!! Could we ask you let us know in advance if you have any dietary particulars.

Yesterday evening I was invited to Ballintoy for a private viewing of the collection
One word..exquisite!
Not only are these garments beautifully cut, you just want to hold the fabrics next to your skin. Japanese cotton shirts, light as air.
Clever, beautful items. My favourite...the Spencer jacket.

We've been lagging with our posts lately...when the sun is shining, who wants to be looking at social media!!??? 🌞🌊

Congratulations to our latest 3 Beginner groups. Your creations are just beautiful and I hope you are proudly using, wearing and displaying them!

All ages welcome, young learners to be accompanied by an adult please.

If you prefer a short workshop to see if sewing is your thing, try one of our Saturday half-day workshops first.we have bag-making or Cushion Making. All abilities welcome!
