Semper Hopkins Upholstery & Interiors

Semper Hopkins Upholstery & Interiors Creative workshops in our converted chapel in Scholar Green, Cheshire. Create, connect & celebrate together. The course will runs from 9am-4.30pm.

Join us for Christmas workshops with afternoon tea, upholstery, interior design and creative team experiences. Semper Hopkins Upholstery and Interiors benefits from two generations of craftsmanshi. They produce beautiful custom made furniture, offer a bespoke upholstery service and they teach upholstery workshops. Their workshop is based in a beautiful converted Methodist Chapel in Scholar Green,

Cheshire. As a father and daughter team we combine our skills, passion and creativity to produce unique pieces for your home. Ian specialises in carpentry and salvaging reclaimed materials, whilst Emma is an expert in upholstery and interior creations. From our workshop we design, and create beautiful industrial style custom made pieces to compliment your home. Each piece is handmade by the father and daughter team ranging from barstools, seating, stools, benches, tables, and storage. Using reclaimed materials, old furniture and a range of hand-picked high-quality modern materials. We care about the environment and by working with materials and old furniture we prevent them from going to landfill. All of our industrial steel framework is bespoke and handmade locally by Alcumlow Hall Forge. https://shupholstery.co.uk/custom-made-furniture/

We offer a customised upholstery service breathing new life into old pieces and transform them. Sometimes the inspiration is a family heirloom, sometimes it's just a favourite piece that has become worn over time, sometimes it's a triumphant find in a second hand furniture store. We specialise in the reupholstering of Art Deco, Victorian, mid-century chairs such as Ercol and Parker Knoll. We love working with old furniture as each piece has its own story and character. We are passionate about preserving these dying processes and skills and we endeavour to give these old but beautiful pieces, a new lease of life. https://shupholstery.co.uk/customised-upholstery/

As well as creating furniture we also like to share our skills and knowledge. We have designed a one day upholstery workshop to give an introduction to the craft. Learning about the tools and materials needed for upholstery. The workshops are perfect if you want a taster into the world of upholstery. You be taught how to make one of our stylish footstool storage crates. You are supplied with all the tools & materials for the course, you just need to bring 1m of your own fabric suitable for upholstery use. The workshop is held from our beautiful converted Chapel in Scholar Green. https://shupholstery.co.uk/upholstery-workshops/

You know you want to transform a room in your home—but you don’t know where to begin or how to bring all the decisions together.

Perhaps:

🤔 You’ve bought a new home, finished the renovations and are now staring at a completely blank canvas.
🏡You have an existing room that needs a complete renovation.
🖍️You’ve saved hundreds of ideas, colours and interiors you love—but can’t work out how to turn them into one room that feels like you.
😬You’re worried about choosing the wrong colour, buying furniture that doesn’t work or making an expensive mistake. You feel so overwhelmed by all the options that you keep putting it off altogether.

That’s exactly why I created the Design & Transform Your Room programme—and there is now 1️⃣ place left on our founding programme, starting Friday 25th September.

Over three practical, supportive days, I’ll help you:

✨ Understand your own interior style
🎨 Develop a complete design and colour direction
📐 Plan a room and a budget that work for the way you live
🪑 Learn practical upholstery skills and create a bespoke piece
🖌️ Learn how to upcycle and give existing furniture a new lease of life
❤️ Feel more confident making decisions about your home

You don’t need to have a finished plan or know exactly what you want. We’ll walk through the process together, with workbooks, online resources, WhatsApp support and a final online clinic.

Programme dates:

Friday 25th September – Interior Design
Friday 23rd October – Introduction to Upholstery
Friday 13th November – Upcycling
Friday 11th December – Online Clinic

Founding offer: £595 when you pay in full.
Full price: £795 or three monthly payments of £265.

Lunch, refreshments, practical tools and materials for your creative projects are included.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or trying to make an existing room finally come together, you’ll leave with a clear plan, practical skills and the confidence to bring it to life.

Comment ROOM and I’ll send you all the details.

Most of being a B Corp happens in the things you don’t see. 🌱

Someone said to me the other day, “You’re the only other person I’ve seen using Smol.”

And it made me smile, because this is exactly the kind of thing people don’t necessarily see.

Being a B Corp goes through every part of your business.

The suppliers you choose.
The materials you use.
What you refill rather than replace.
How you reduce waste.
Even what we clean the chapel with.

It’s not one big decision.

It’s hundreds of small decisions you make, day after day, about how you want to do business.

Today, that just happens to look like a box of cleaning refills. 🌱

Grown-ups need to play at Christmas too. 🎄

Somewhere between the shopping, organising, cooking and endless lists, Christmas can become a lot more about doing and a lot less about simply enjoying yourself.

That's one of the reasons I love our Christmas workshops.

For a few hours you get to leave everything else at the door, be creative, have a laugh and make something with your own hands.

Michelle described it beautifully after coming back for her second wreath-making workshop:

“I was looking forward to a much-needed wellbeing boost and I certainly found it in the chapel, which wraps you up in a cosy, comforting hug.”

And my favourite bit…

“This is my second year of wreath-making with Emma and I know this tradition will continue for years to come.”

This Christmas you can come and PLAY with us:

🌿 Christmas Wreath Making
🎁 Handmade Christmas Decorations
🎨 Christmas Printmaking

And this Bank Holiday weekend, there's £10 off every workshop place with code BANKHOLIDAY.

Comment PLAY below and we'll send them over.

Maybe it's time to put something in the diary that's just for the joy of it.

How many things in your home did you buy because they were… fine?

Not wrong.

Not horrible.

Just fine.

The sofa that fitted the space, but wasn’t really what you wanted.

The safe paint colour because you weren’t quite brave enough to choose the one you actually loved.

The furniture everyone could agree on because nobody else could picture what you had in your head.

So you compromise.

And six months later you’re looking around thinking…

Why doesn’t this room feel like me?

It’s something I see all the time, and often the problem isn’t a lack of ideas.

It’s a lack of confidence in the decisions.

That’s a big part of what we’ll work on inside Design & Transform Your Room.

Not me telling you what your home should look like.

Helping you work out what you love, how you want your room to feel, what will work in your space and how to connect all those decisions together.

Because I want you to stand in that room at the end and think:

I chose this. I created this. And I bloody love it.

Not, well… it’s fine.

Our first group starts in September and there are still a few places available.

If you’ve got a room you’d love to finally get right, comment ROOM and I’ll send you the details.

Have you ever tried talking about your room ideas with someone who really doesn’t want to talk about your room ideas? 😂

You’re thinking about colour, layout, furniture, fabric and how you want the whole thing to feel.

They’re politely nodding.

Then you show them the 14th saved image on your phone and get…

“I just can’t picture it.”

And suddenly you’re questioning the idea yourself.

One of the things I’ve been thinking about as I prepare to welcome the first group onto Design & Transform Your Room is how important the group itself is going to be.

Because for three months, you'll be surrounded by people who actually WANT to talk about this stuff.

Different homes. Different rooms. Different styles. Different problems to solve.

There’ll be ideas to bounce around, questions to ask, things that don’t quite work first time and plenty of moments when someone needs to say, what do you think of this?

Yes, I’ll be there to teach and guide everyone through the process.

But I also want it to feel like you’ve got your own little creative gang cheering you on while you do it.

Because sometimes you don’t need another Pinterest board.

You need the right people around you to help you make the decisions.

Why does your room still feel unfinished… even though it’s full of lovely things?

Usually, the answer isn’t that you need to buy more.

It’s that the things you already have aren’t quite connecting.

The colour might not work with the furniture.

The furniture might fit, but the layout doesn’t work for how you actually use the room.

Or you might have lots of individual things you love, but nothing really pulling them all together.

So before you buy another cushion, lamp or tin of paint, stand back and look at the whole room.

What colours repeat?

Where does your eye naturally land?

Does the layout actually work?

Is there anything that feels like it belongs in a completely different room?

And most importantly… how do you want the room to feel?

Sometimes you don’t need more stuff.

You need clarity about what stays, what moves and what the room actually needs.

Save this one for the next time you’re standing in a room thinking, why doesn’t this feel right yet?

A £30 Marketplace chair. A beginner’s upholstery workshop. And a month later, Nic sent me this…

“Thanks so much for giving me the skills and confidence to give it a go. I’m thrilled to bits with the result. Next project uploading…”

THIS is why I love teaching practical skills.

Nic joined our Introduction to Upholstery workshop in July as part of a sabbatical from work. She’d deliberately created time to pursue some of the creative things she’d always wanted to try — and upholstery was on her list.

But what I really love is what she did next.

A month later, she’d found a tired chair on Marketplace for £30 and decided to put some of what she’d learned into practice.

She didn’t leave the skills sitting in the workshop. She went home and had a go.

That’s something I always encourage after a workshop: start another manageable project while everything is still fresh.

One workshop gives you skills to start with.

The next project gives you the chance to practise them.

And every time you have a go, you learn a little more and build your confidence.

Before long, you start looking at tired furniture differently — not because one workshop suddenly makes you an upholsterer, but because you’ve started learning what’s possible.

If you’ve been thinking I’d love to learn how to do that, I’ve got three workshops coming up at our converted chapel in Scholar Green:

✨ 11 September – Introduction to Interior Design for Beginners
✨ 2 October – Upholstery Skills: Piping, Pleats & Shallow Buttoning
✨ 16 October – Introduction to Upholstery for Beginners

They’re hands-on, friendly and designed to teach you practical skills you can take home, practise and build on.

Comment CREATE and I’ll send you the details.

You never know what learning that first skill might lead to…
