Jaymar Packaging Ltd CAD & Reprographic Designer
Jaymar Packaging Limited, based in Crewe have a vacancy for a highly motivated CAD & Reprographic Designer to join our team.

Job Role
Working in the Jaymar Design Studio you would take the lead across two departments:
Structural Packaging Design Department
In the design department the role is to create and prepare structural packaging designs, and samples from the interpretation of a customer brief using Impact CAD software.
The role will also require regular liaison with the sales team to offer technical knowledge in order to suggest innovative designs, closely matching the customer brief, for a variety of packaging options.
Reprographic Pre-Press Artwork Department
In the reprographic department the role is to inspect incoming files, proof files back out to our customers and then prepare approved artwork for the press. We use the Adobe suite to create proofs and on the odd occasion generate artwork from scratch. Good graphic design skills and an eye for detail will be essential. Knowledge of inks and print processes will be needed, and there is also a requirement to be aware of computer to plate processes and workflows to ensure artwork files transfer correctly from file to press ready printing plate.
Day to day, both studios deal mainly in carton design and artwork approval. You will responsible for producing sample cartons for the customer as well as providing tooling for the ongoing production line, as well as preparing approved artwork files so they are ready for production on the press.
The departments are fast-paced with multiple work streams to manage at any one time.
CAD responsibilities:
• Design and implementation of packaging solutions for products across varied ranges.
• Creating production accurate samples for the customer.
• Taking designs from brief to signed off projects.
• Liaising with relevant members of the team and external partners.
• Supporting the wider Design Studio and ongoing production line.
• Managing the storage and organisation of our Cutting Forms.
Reprographic responsibilities:
• To ensure that all images and files are complete and ready for printing according to our specifications.
• Offering technical advice and ensuring artwork is achievable within production constraints.
• Amending, checking and pre-flighting packaging artwork.
• Ensuring all guidelines are followed.
• Checking for any artwork errors.
• Providing colour proofing.
• Using Adobe Creative Suite for artwork and prepress.
• Ability to mentor new and junior staff, providing training wherever necessary.
The ideal candidate will need to:
• Have an understanding of Impact or other CAD Software used to create packaging design concepts.
• Be a strong communicator and able to work collaboratively.
• Have a good attitude to work, be committed and dedicated.
• Flexible and able to take briefs verbally and written.
• Show good attention to detail.
• Be practical & methodical with good organisational skills.
• Be accommodating and helpful to ensure all customer requirements are met and colleagues are supported.
• Have 3-5 years previous experience working within a packaging environment.
• The role requires evidence of previous print experience using Adobe CC illustrator workflow so working knowledge of these is essential.
• Experience of preparing files for Flexo/ Litho print is essential.
• Knowledge of artwork, pre-press and repro procedures.
• Experience of the print industry and processes i.e. Flexo, Litho, Gravure.
• Proven experience of artwork creation and manipulation to a high standard.
• Some basic knowledge of retouching is also desirable.
• To adhere to all internal processes in place for digital workflows.
• It would be beneficial to have colour matching skills

Hours:
The hours of work are 35.5 per week with a 45-minute lunch and early finish on a Friday.
5 Weeks holiday per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays.
Salary is negotiable and will depend on experience.
