Autumn weaving workshop

What a wonderful day we had yesterday, the sun was shining and the shuttles were flying.

There was a definite feeling of autumn in the air, but warm and inspiring conversation in the studio.

The next one day workshop will be on the 22nd November if you fancy having a go and making your own handwoven scarf for the chilly winter months.

Corduroy weaving

This has been my recent obsession.
Corduroy is a rug weaving technique, that creates a woven pile, a chunkier version of the corduroy fabric we are all familiar with. Woven in exactly the same way.

When weaving my scarves, it is impossible to weave right to the end of a warp, the lengths of thread left after the fabric is cut off, are called thrums.
It's these thrums that I use in the weft to create the piles.

The thrums, are the colours of my previous projects, so run in blends, but I am restricted by what I have.

It's taking a bit of time to sort through, but I'm creating some fabulous combinations, and so tactile.

Today I took a trip down to Halifax to drop off some artwork for next months exhibition 'Autumn beauty' .info

Had a look at the current exhibition 'open mind'
Beautifully curated and a nice mix of different mediums displayed.

Had a quick walk around Halifax, and a look in the piece hall. I only had a quick look as I didn't have much time.drfinately more to come back and see.

Surface textures.
I found the most delicious textures while walking through an underpass in the centre of Newcastle today.
Pressed concrete, with the light shining from above to show off all the inconsistencies in the surface.
I love the bright orange rail in contrast, and the yellow edge of the steps.
