From Saturday 13th June 2026, we will have this bowl by Maureen Minchin available to buy at Cromarty Pottery.

Maureen Minchin is a potter based in Ardnamurchan, well known for her handthrown earthenware pieces, which feature intricate decoration created using the sgraffito technique. Ordinarily, Maureen would have added colour to her pieces using underglaze. In 2024, Bärbel Dister travelled from Ardnamurchan to Cromarty Pottery with a range of Maureen's unfinished work. These pieces had only been fired to the bisque stage with no colour added. We applied a clear glaze to each piece and gave them their final firing here in our studio. As Maureen has spent time throwing for us here at Cromarty Pottery over the years, it has been a pleasure to help bring some of her unfinished pieces to completion and to celebrate her talent with you all.

As you can see, this piece has a crack through the middle, which Bärbel has repaired using kintsugi, a Japanese technique that repairs broken ceramics using lacquer dusted with powdered gold.

Measurements Diameter 17.5 inches, height 3.9 inches.
